It kind of depends on who you ask as to whether more actors from other countries should think about bringing their success to the US. On one hand people such as Ranbir Kapoor, who grew up in a household with parents who were actors and has been privy to the life for many years, has definitely figured out what it takes to survive in the acting industry. On the other he’s amassed such popularity in his own country that it’s uncertain whether or not that would translate over to the US. Trying to be on the optimistic side it seems fair to state that he could possibly see a very big rise in popularity if he was to cross over into the US and ply his acting talents here, but as born natives of the country already know stardom is an uncertain thing and can be plentiful one moment and stripped from them the next. There’s nothing to say that the same fate would befall Ranbir, but it would likely be best to test the waters before diving in headfirst.
There’s a few reasons why it might be a good idea for him to come on over to the US and test his luck.
Jumping from one film culture to another is something that’s been realized but not as often as one might think.
It’s fairly easy for an actor be considered a star worldwide, but being known for jumping from one industry to another would be something that might be considered quite impressive. There have been several actors that have done it throughout the history of Hollywood but only a handful seem to have ever made it work for them in a big way. While he’s been a big star in his own country and has made a stellar reputation for himself it seems as though it might increase his earning power even more and create a legacy that would be virtually untouchable if he was to be star in his own homeland as well as in the United States. While many countries around the world have their own stars and their own films it is still well-known that once an actor comes to the US their stock can either go up or down. It all depends on how successful the transition is and whether or not they’re able to make audiences believe in them. Ranbir seems as though he might be able to make the jump and to get peoples’ attention, so it seems to come down to a matter of personal choice at this point.
If he could make it in the USA then chances are he could make it anywhere.
It’s a toss-up to say who the most fickle fans are when it comes to movies, but if Ranbir were to start off fairly slow and take supporting parts in American films it seems possible that he could be worked in and gradually moved up to a leading role. This might seem a tad insulting seeing as how he’s such a big star where he’s from, but one has to earn their dues no matter where they go, and considering that he’s already done so much it might be feasible to give him a bigger part in a movie simply because he is proven. Simply slamming him into a lead role seems like a risk since many audience members, unless they watch his films and enjoy them, might have no concept of who he is and could possibly allow personal bias to sway their decision about Ranbir. This isn’t to say that he would be judged on his nationality or the color of skin, but more by the fact that the American audiences haven’t seen him before and might not react too kindly simply because he’s a new face. Thanks to his acting ability, which is quite refined at this point, he should be able to win many people over without much issue, but it would still be a risk to bring him too quickly.
It kind of seems as though he’s reached a plateau where he’s at.
Actors have to keep rising or they run the risk of being utilized in the same manner over and over and therefore don’t tend to move forward with their career. There are those that might seek the middle of the road but they don’t tend to last as long as those that keep trying to ascend to greater heights. He might not be tapped out for what he can do in his homeland but the real challenge seems to be if he could survive the Hollywood environment. Just taking the challenge would raise his reputation a great deal since it would show that he’s willing to take a chance and do something different. Whether or not he ever does is up to him obviously.
It might be an interesting switch for him.
