1. Early Life and Background
Bersten was born in Minnetonka, Minnesota to a Russian family. He stayed in the state all his life and even attended the University of Minnesota. In recent years, Bersten has traveled all over the nation for DWTS. Nowadays, he’s based in Los Angeles since this is where DWTS records their shows.
2. Family Success
The youngest of three siblings, Bersten might be the most successful out of them all. He has been doing what he loves since he was little and now he is a dancing professional with a massive audience on television.
3. Dancing Journey
Bersten started dancing at the young age of 7. Since then, he’s learned many different styles with a focus on ballroom. He has also won several awards and recognitions along the way. Just three years after he started dancing, he saw DWTS for the first time; it was destiny in the making.
4. Dancing Runs in the Family
Bersten’s older brother Gene taught him how to dance. Interestingly enough, Gene also auditioned for So You Think You Can Dance Season 10 alongside Alan, who made it to the Top 6 Males.
5. Post-SYTYCD Career
After SYTYCD Season 10 ended, Bersten toured with the company and later joined Burn the Floor’s world tour. When he was done touring, Bersten landed a recurring role on Season 6 of Glee as part of Vocal Adrenaline.
6. Teaching Dance
When not working with celebrities on DWTS or dancing elsewhere on television, Bersten teaches dance at Dance With Us America, a professional ballroom dance studio owned by his brother Gene and sister-in-law Elena.

Bersten used to love playing guitar when he was younger. It isn’t unusual for artists to have multidisciplinary interests in the arts like being able to play an instrument or sing.
8. SYTYCD Audition
Bersten auditioned for SYTYCD back in 2013 when he was only 18 years old. He became a fan favorite but was eliminated after failing to convey the right emotions during his performance with Jasmine Mason.
9. Becoming a DWTS Pro
Bersten had been touring with DWTS Live for five years before becoming a pro for Season 25. He replaced main dancers a couple of times due to constraints, and the producers liked him enough to put him in the show full time.
10. Overcoming Health Challenges
Bersten underwent tumor-removal surgery before this season of DWTS started, giving him a new perspective on life but not changing his passion for dance.
