There is little doubt that most fans will remember Tony Shalhoub as the actor that made Monk famous. Most people are probably a little curious to see what he’s been up to lately, as it doesn’t seem like he’s been making as many appearances on television and film as he used to. The truth is, he’s been just as busy as ever. In fact, he has a number of projects that he’s worked on since Monk ended and he’s currently working on some brand new projects as well.
As you can imagine, after starring in a television show like Monk for so many years, he definitely developed a name for himself. Of course, he was a relatively well-known actor before that show ever came into being. Therefore, the success of the show itself only further propelled his acting career, but it certainly isn’t what started it. When the show ended, he had plenty of work to fall back on when it came to demonstrating that he had both the experience and the ability to portray basically any role he wanted to.
When Monk went off the air, he put that experience to good use and landed some guest starring roles on other television series. One of the more notable ones was The Blacklist. He also had a recurring role on Nurse Jackie, one of the more groundbreaking television series that’s ever been developed. It was definitely edgier than most things he had done in the past, but the role fit him well and he wound up being invited back time and again to reprise it. He also had a recurring role on the television series Brain Dead.
Of course, television isn’t the only thing he’s been involved with. He also did one of the voices for the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, something that most people don’t even realize. He provided his voice over talent once again when he starred as Luigi in Cars 3. He even went back to do the role again for the video game. As you can see, he’s versatile enough that he can use his talents in virtually any manner necessary, something that keeps him busy when other actors might be sitting around twiddling their thumbs.
Shalhoub has also starred in a number of movies since he stopped playing the character Monk. He was in 2016’s The Assignment and the following year, he starred another movie entitled Breakable You. Today, he is working once again in television, with a recurring role in a series called The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. In the show, he plays the character Abe Weissman. He’s also doing voiceover work for another television show that involves his character Luigi from Cars. Last but certainly not least, he starred as Dr. Godin in a movie called Rosy. It’s not out yet, but it looks like it should be coming out in the very near future.
By all accounts, it looks like he will continue to work on both of the television series mentioned in the paragraph above, as well as the occasional movie. He certainly hasn’t had any shortage of work and there’s no reason to expect that to change. If you loved the TV show Monk, you might consider tuning in to one of these other projects as well.
