It’s been a week since the end of San Diego Comic-Con 2017, which is about just about the recovery time needed from the whirlwind of those days. It’s difficult to explain the euphoric chaos of the event if you haven’t been there at least once. Just being able to keep up with everything that’s going on at once is hectic, and requires constant access to Twitter. That doesn’t mean we don’t thoroughly enjoy ourselves, and get surprised along with the fans. Here is an inside look into our favorite moments in our Comic-Con Roundup.
Araceli A.–Live Tweeting The Originals Panel
First of all, anyone who has ever live-tweeted knows it’s a marathon to keep up with everything that’s being said at a convention. SDCC is an event which must be planned, even as an attendee, with almost military precision. Yet I did manage to squeeze into this panel prior to press room obligations, and was very glad I did. This was the last time The Originals will be at Comic-Con, and the cast was all too aware of it. While reflecting on the last 5 years and beyond of portraying these characters, the cast had trouble keeping it together amidst all the nostalgia. The most emotional moment came when Charles Michael Davis could no longer hold in the tears and completely broke down on stage. It was one of those Comic-Con moments you couldn’t predict if you tried.
Nick H.–Taping of SYFY’s Live From Comic-Con, Hosted by Zachary Levi.
Dara D.–Press Room Discoveries
My favorite moment of the press rooms at SDCC was when I learned that Jason Ralph, aka Quentin Coldwater from The Magicians, also plays Pokemon Go, and he’s Team Instinct! It was a fun moment to relax at the table, and remind us of the fun energy behind The Magicians.
Blaise H.– Doctor Who Panel’s Fitting Sendoff
Getting to experience Peter Capaldi’s sendoff at the Doctor Who panel. Seeing the multi-minute clip of Capaldi’s best moments followed up by the actor and former show runner Steven Moffat reflecting on their accomplishments on Doctor Who was a treat. The fan questions were emotional, but rounded out an incredible panel for a fantastic show.
Chris K.–Kansas Kicking Off the Supernatural Panel
Despite this being my third year at Comic-Con, I had not, up until this point, had a chance to attend the panel for one of my all-time favorite shows, Supernatural. However, this year, I was finally able to get into Hall H on Sunday morning and was blown away by the surprise that the Supernatural team had planned for all of us: Kansas performing the show’s unofficial theme song, “Carry On My Wayward Son,” to kick off the panel. I can’t accurately describe the excitement and elation that filled the room when Kansas took the stage. The surprise performance was a perfect gift to fans for their unwavering love, enthusiasm, and dedication to the show over the past decade-plus, and it ensured that this year’s Comic-Con panel for Supernatural won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
