I need to get something off my chest about Tulane University. I’m an alum of this school and on the day of my graduation I was told I wasn’t getting a diploma. I was the first student in the history of the school where a technical glitch in the Tulane matrix said that I didn’t have enough credits. I literally received no diploma on graduation day even though they called me up to the stage. The weekend was essentially ruined and I found out over the weekend it was in fact a computer error. They apologized and all that but man, what a memory. P.S. I had the best time of my life at Tulane so no worries guys. But I will say this. I don’t remember the commencement speech at all simply because it sucked.
Now it seems that Tulane gets awesome people left and right for their commencement speeches. You’d think a school with one of the highest tuitions in the country would get a A-lister each year. Ellen Dengeneres had a great speech and now this week it was Helen Mirren’s turn. By the way no commencement speech this year is going to top Theo Epstein’s at Yale. Just wanted to throw that out there. Let’s get back to Dame Helen Mirren.
She had an excellent speech but her best part was definitely her advice to our current President, Donald Trump.
“Something you’ll remember in the year 2047 because it is so true,” says Mirren. “Whether you’re in Tipitina’s, French Quarter, or the Oval Office; no good can ever come from tweeting at 3 a.m.”
