Our favorite science fiction horror drama is coming back with a vengeance! Fans of the hit Netflix series, Stranger Things, need not wait much longer for the anticipated season four premiere of the series. If there’s one thing we’ve learned for tuning into the show the past couple of years, it’s that the long waits are usually worth it. The series is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, and follows a group of kids who help investigate the mysterious disappearance of one of their friends, Will Byers, portrayed by Noah Schnapp (Bridge of Spies). A number of supernatural events occurs alongside Will’s disappearance making the search more bizarre than ever. The arrival of Eleven, portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown (Enola Holmes), a young girl with psychokinetic abilities was also a major turning point in the series, which changed the course of the entire investigation. The past three seasons of the show has garnered a strong following, and has created a storyline that managed to surpass our expectations. Each season continues to be bigger and better all while staying true to its core storyline and character developments. Here are five things to expect from Stranger Things’ impending comeback:
5. A fresh start
Out with the old, in with the new— it’s finally time to bid adieu to Hawkins. The small town has been a major part of the previous seasons, so it’s only natural to feel quite nostalgic to have a change of environment. The fourth season of the series will be set in sunny California, which is a polar opposite from the dark and morose Hawkins we have learned to become accustomed to. New adventures await the kids, who are now basically teenagers. California may seem less intimidating than Hawkins, but if there’s one thing we’ve learned from years of tuning in to the series, it’s to expect the unexpected. You’ll never know what cliffhanger is going to hit you next.
4. Two is better than one
Viewers won’t get to binge-watch all the episodes of the fourth season in one go just like they used to, as the fourth season will be split into two volumes. This was relayed to the public through an open letter penned by the show’s brilliant creators, the Duffer brothers. The dynamic duo promised an explosive and action-packed new season that needed to be separated into two parts, which will be aired five weeks apart because of its unprecedented length. The wait may be even longer than expected, but it looks like the Duffer brothers have got it all under control. Something huge is brewing for the show’s loyal fanbase, and we can’t wait to partake in it!
3. New faces to watch out for
All of the original cast members will reprise their roles, alongside a couple of new faces to spice things up. Peter Ballard, portrayed by Jamie Campbell Bower (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street), a warmhearted man who works as an orderly at a psychiatric facility has also been promoted to a series regular, together with Argyle, portrayed by Eduardo Franco (Booksmart) and Eddie Munson, portrayed by Joseph Quinn (Catherine the Great). There are other recurring and new cast members to look forward to, and these include Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Tom Wlaschiha (Game of Thrones), Sherman Augustus (Into the Badlands), Mason Dye (Teen Wolf), Nikola Djuricko (World War Z), and many others. The show has no shortage of talent, and the new season is about to introduce us to a whole new range of interesting characters.
2. More mysterious elements that will catch us off guard
We would think that the show’s creators and writers would have already exhausted all storylines at this point. It’s a good thing that we were proven wrong. There are apparently even more plotlines to explore, countless more adventures to pursue, and supernatural beings that are to wreak more havoc. In the season 3 finale, the gang was able to successfully close the gate to the Upside Down, with Jim Hopper, portrayed by David Harbour (Hellboy), who served as the sacrificial lamb. It was heartbreaking scene to witness, especially for Eleven who already saw Jim as a father figure. All hope is not lost though, as Jim’s return has already been confirmed in season 4. Anything is possible in realm of Stranger Things.
1. The beginning of the end
All good things must come to an end. The Duffer brother also announced in their open letter that the season 4 premiere marks the “beginning of the end”, with season 5 being the last for the series. We always knew something like this would be announced sooner or later, it’s just not something a viewer, more so a hardcore fan of the series, would want to anticipate. The storyline has already been stretched long enough, and it’s about time that the chapter to this amazing series, which has elevated the science fiction genre, is closed. We will miss the unpredictable premise, the series’ killer soundtrack, and more importantly, the memorable characters whom we’ve grown to love and root for over the years.David Harbour
