James Corden is one of the nation’s favorite late night hosts; who would ever want to see this guy get hit in the face? Normally, we’d say no. But the segment in his show featuring The Slow Mo Guys is just so awesome; we had to watch it again and again. The Slow Mo Guys are the geniuses behind the YouTube show of the same name, where Gavin Free and Daniel Charles Gruchy film anything and everything you could ever think of in super slow motion. Corden featured these guys in The Late Late Show recently to do a few tricks on set.
Corden and The Slow Mo Guys started it off with a classic: popping a water balloon with a pin. Sure we’ve seen this done plenty of times in slow motion before, but the effect the guys’ specialized camera brought is insanely more detailed than any slow motion effect we’ve seen in the past. You could even see the water floating while still in spherical form right after the balloon was popped.
The next part of the segment was the best. The Slow Mo Guys took a medium sized red rubber ball and smacked Corden right in the left cheek with it. They didn’t have to do it hard, but watching it in regular time is funny enough. The slow motion bit was cool as ever, seeing Corden’s face jiggle all over the place on top of his commentary is absolutely priceless. The last segment was a treat.
The three guys closed it off big with an explosive slow motion jump–literally. They blew up a few things on stage, which hurled the three forward to some mats on the floor. It was basically an action scene on The Late Late Show starring three unlikely characters wearing lab coats. If that doesn’t sound funny, watch the segment. You’ll at least leave with a chuckle.
