“Zoo” is definitely the must-see show of the television season, as well as the last two. If you haven’t watched it on CBS during the first two seasons, you should stream it. Or, you could just start with this season, however, you will have missed a lot. But, watch them or not, you’ll love Season 3 of” Zoo”. That said, what’s so special about “Zoo”? Well, there are a number of reasons to love it and here are a few:
Writing
Just in case you didn’t know it, James Patterson isn’t just one of Richard Castle’s poker buddies on the hit, [but now canceled} series “Castle”. No, he’s actually a genuine literary icon, having written 252 books, many of which were made into major motion pictures. To date, Patterson’s books have sold over 350 million copies and he was also the very first writer ever to be successful at selling one million e-books. With teleplays that are all co-written by Patterson, the TV series is based on his book of the same name. Having one of the biggest authors in the world definitely can’t hurt a project and the storylines and scripts are phenomenal.
Direction
Even the best, most talented cast will fall flat without excellent direction and “Zoo” definitely has that. With a long list of directors, the most significant one, with nine shows under his belt, is Michael Katleman. In addition to directing, Katleman is also an executive producer on “Zoo”, as he is on one of my other favorite shows, “Last Ship”, for which he directed several episodes as well. He also directed episodes of” Rizzoli & Isles”, “Designated Survivor”, “Scandal”, “Dallas”, and much more. The rest of the list of directors have directed one or two shows, all of them well-directed.
Cast
The cast of “Zoo” really makes it what it is today. From James Wolk as Jackson Oz to Billy Burke as Mitch Morgan, everyone in the cast holds his or her own and when you’re playing against giant snarling mutant animals, that’s quite a feat. Wolk is a hunk on a mission and Burke is the cool and amazing veterinary pathologist that we all thought we were going to miss terribly when he was killed at the end of Season 2. Or was he? At the tail end of the season finale, we discover that he isn’t dead after all. So, of course, Season 3 revolves around finding him and bringing him back to the team. His daughter starts the movement but then turns out to be just an evil look-alike.
All of the cast from the first two seasons join these two amazing actors and they include the lovely and talented Alyssa Diaz as Dariela Marzan, and Kristen Connolly as Dr. Morgan’s gorgeous and feisty girlfriend, Jamie Campbell. Rounding out the cast is Nonso Anozi as Abraham Kenyatta, who starts out the first season resembling Red’s giant sidekick on “Blacklist” but evolves into a strong sensitive type who marries Dariela and together they have one of the last children on earth. Why is that? Well, the bad guys release a gas that was supposed to control the world’s animals but turns out to be a drug that actually sterilizes every human being on the earth.
So, you’re going to have to watch this season of “Zoo” to see who wins the war, the mutant lab-created monster animals or the team led by Oz that is trying their best to save mankind. The whole mess started with the animals of the world fighting back against people abusing them but now the tables are turned. Don’t miss an episode because not only are the writing, directing, and cast amazing but so are the special effects!
