Doug Liman is a film producer and director who was born and raised in New City. He began making short films during his teens before studying at the International Center of Photography in New York City. He also attended Brown University where he co-founded a student television network called BTV. He also co-founded the National Association of College Broadcasters (NACB) with funding from connections of his father’s at the CBS Foundation. The first film Liman directed was ‘Swingers’ in 1996 and many content it’s still his best.
Jon Favreau had wanted to act in and direct the movie but was unable to raise the finance. Instead, Liman persuaded Favreau to let him direct the movie and he raised money for the project from one of his father’s clients. Following the success of ‘Swingers’, Doug Liman went on to produce and direct many more movies.

1. Go
‘Go’ is a crime comedy movie that was written by John August and was released in 1999. It starred William Fichtner, Jay Mohr, Katie Holmes, Sarah Polley, and Scott Wolf. Although it performed only moderately at the box office, it was well received by critics and has since become a cult classic. The intertwining plots were praised and some critics compared the style of this movie to ‘Pulp Fiction’.
2. The Bourne Identity
This 2002 action spy thriller is based on a novel of the same name by Robert Ludlum and adapted into a screenplay by William Blake Herron and Tony Gilroy. The movie starred Matt Damon in the leading role. Other cast members included Franka Potente, Clive Owen, Chris Cooper, Brian Cox, Julia Stiles, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. ‘The Bourne Identity’ was a massive box office hit as it grossed $214 million worldwide on a budget of $60 million.
3. Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie star in this 2005 action comedy thriller which was written by Simon Kinberg. They play a bored married couple who are shocked to learn that they are both secretly working as assassins for competing agencies. They are even more surprised to learn that they are assigned to kill each other. The movie had a budget of $110 million and was a commercial success as it grossed $478.2 million at the worldwide box office. It also received positive reviews from both the public and critics.
4. Jumper
‘Jumper’ is a science fiction action movie that is based on a novel by Steven Gould. It was adapted into a screenplay by Simon Kinberg, Jim Uhis, and David S. Goyer. This 2008 movie is about a young man who has the power of teleporting and is being chased by a secret society who want to kill him. The movie stars Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, Jamie Bell, AnnaSophia Robb, Max Theriot, Samuel L. Jackson, Diane Lane, and Michael Rooker.
5. Edge of Tomorrow
For this movie, Doug Liman was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Director. It is a science fiction action movie that stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. It is based on a Japanese novel called ‘All You Need is Kill’ by Hiroshi Sakurazaka and adapted into a screenplay by John-Henry Butterworth, Christopher McQuarrie, and Jez Butterworth. It is also known as ‘Live. Die. Repeat.’ .’Edge of Tomorrow’ grossed $370.5 million at the worldwide box office.
