19. Melanie Daniels- The Birds
‘The Birds’ has become a cult classic horror-thriller film and one of the best -known works of director Alfred Hitchcock. The screenplay for this 1963 movie was written by Evan Hunter and loosely based on a 1952 book of the same name by Daphne de Maurier. In 2016, this movie was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. Tippi Hedren made her movie debut in this film playing the lead female role of Melanie Daniels, a young socialite, opposite Rod Taylor as Mitch Brenner in the lead male role. The pair are staying on Bodega Bay in California where there are unexplained bird attacks over a few days. Melanie Daniels survives a violent bird attack and is carried off the island to the safety of a car in the final scene.
