It’s not certain what lighting the lights in this new documentary means but the Muppet puppeteers is insanely interesting since there’s a lot that went into the show that a lot of people didn’t know about to start with. Not a one of them was with the company for anything less than twenty years, which is a long time to be working on a kids’ show and contribute their voices and their time. The entire time however it sounds like these people were like a big, dysfunctional family and it worked. They had a hard job at times but they made it work in such a way that their job wasn’t their life, but it was still a fun time while they were in the act. There was a great deal of structure, discipline, and knowing where to be and when. One of the best things is though is that all of them credited Jim Henson for a lot of the fun that went on during the filming. They had to be on the ball, but they were also allowed to have a lot of fun.
The Muppets have been such a popular show throughout the years that if you really looked at the number of people you couldn’t help but think that it was one of the most successful kids’ shows in history. You wouldn’t be too far off the mark since the show did in fact become one of the greatest and most well-known programs in the history of TV. The greatest part though is that the actors did this mostly for themselves. They didn’t go out there thinking that they were making a kids’ show. They did what they did because they enjoyed it, and in doing so they brought inspiration to millions upon millions of people that came to see the Muppets as everything from a bit of entertainment to the kind of inspiration that made people believe that they could do just about anything.
Think about this and remember a moment from your childhood. If you ever watched the Muppets then you know just how addictive they could be since they were dynamic, they were funny, and they carried so many inherent lessons that people learned from throughout the years. These people never took themselves too seriously when they were in the middle of filming, they were relaxed, and they were therefore able to create something that was praised in such a way that it’s become a part of culture in many countries. There’s no way to remove it at this point short of erasing it from memory, which would still be fairly impossible. Jim Henson had a lot to do with this as he was the kind of guy that didn’t demand too much of his actors, he didn’t hover over them, and he didn’t give them the kind of grief that made people neurotic and hate their job.
This was a family environment that allowed these people to grow and to give the world something that will be remembered for many years to come.
