The Walking Dead 2.13 “Beside The Dying Fire” Comic-to-TV Comparison

The Walking Dead - Beside the Dying Fire

HERSHEL’S LAST STAND

AMC: Initially, Hershel makes clear to Daryl that under no circumstances will he abandon his farm to the undead, even ignoring several later pleas for escape from Carol and Lori. However, after pumping round after round into the undead, one walker nearly gets the jump on Hershel, before Rick manages to save the day in the nick of time. Finally beaten, Hershel agrees to abandon the farm and follow the other survivors wherever they may go.

THE COMICS: In the books, Hershel threw Rick and his group off the farm not long after the massacre at the barn, and it was only after setting up camp at the prison that Rick returned to the farm to persuade Hershel and his people to join them. Given the more frequent attacks they suffered in the warming springtime, Hershel didn’t need very much convincing to leave his far behind, even with his tense relationship with Rick.
