The Vampire Diaries 1.17 “Let The Right One In” Recap

The Vampire Diaries 1.17 “Let The Right One In” RecapWow. Dead bodies and an addiction problem were thrown at us last night on The Vampire Diaries and the town of Mystic Falls was rocked harder than an infant by a deranged parent. Let’s recap shall we?

The Set Up

While Elena is awakened by an impending storm, and a suddenly opened window, Jeremy gets a visit from Anna and the two discuss his quest to be a vampire, which Anna still doesn’t want to do. Before Jeremy can continue to plead his case, Elena comes and asks for help in securing all the windows, while Anna disappeared at the blink of an eye.

Back at Vampire Inn, Pearl wonders what Fredrick is up to since he is sharpening a stake. He wants revenge for Beth Anne’s death and he’s sick of waiting on Pearl to make their next move. Obviously, the neanderthal vampire hasn’t learned his lesson from last week so Pearl has to remind him what’s at stake and that was not an intended pun. But Fredrick doesn’t listen and already has his own group of vamps ready to do things his way. Dumbass…

Not Without My Brother

The day after the ambush, Damon and Stefan board up their house and fill Elena in on the drama. Damon wants to annihilate them all and for once I am with him. Elena is ticked that Damon made a deal with Pearl, especially in an attempt to get back Katherine. Later, Stefan decides to go for a run to build up energy, but he’s captured by Fredrick and his goons, who haul him back to the Vampire Inn.

Damon contacts Elena and after they both realize that Stefan is in trouble, Damon heads to the House of Vamps and confronts Fredrick, while watching Stefan get tortured by some of the other vamps. But since Damon hasn’t been invited in by Ms. Gibbons, who Fredrick compels to not do so, Damon is has to come up with a plan B. Elena is ready to fight for her man, but Damon says hell no and that they got to come up with something fast. Their fast Plan B? Enlist Alaric Saltzman. Hmmm…

Alaric is a hard sell, because why save a vampire when he hunts and kills them? Damon offers that Pearl can help with finding Isobel and it takes Damon to call Alaric a coward for the history teacher by day, vamp slayer by night to join in on the fun. They decide to go in on stealth mode, with Alaric being the one to break the barrier. Elena wants to know what her role is in the plan and Damon objects to her to even get involved, because he can’t worry about her safety in a house with over fifteen hungry vampires. Elena seems to not get this for some reason and my heart drops at her sudden stupidity leak. Damon mentions that her involvement might not only get her killed, but Stefan as well.

Meanwhile, Stefan is suffering through a combination of the torture scenes from Lethal Weapon and one of the Hostel movies andThe Vampire Diaries 1.17 “Let The Right One In” Recap is temporarily relieved when Harper voices his disagreement about the situation. Fredrick doesn’t take any chances and has Harper tied up.

Later, Alaric shows up on the front porch with the ruse of his car breaking down and needing to use the phone. Fredrick is the one who lets him and when Alaric is alone, one of the other vamps tries to attack him, but Alaric takes him out. Ms. Gibbons shows up in the kitchen and Alaric, turning on blenders and water, tries to talk some sense into her after opening the back kitchen door where Damon stands waiting. Damon lures Ms. Gibbons outside and asks if she has any family and friends, when she replies no, Damon snaps her neck to gain entrance. Alaric is appalled, but Damon pretty much tells him to get over it. They proceed to kick ass and take out the vamps, but outside Elena has another stupidity leak and decides to make her way into the house. Immediately, Damon has to save her and they manage to get to Stefan, who saves Harper before Damon sends him and Elena out the house while he distracts.

Fredrick realizes that something is up, but it’s too late. Most of his vamps are all knocked out with vervain darts in their backs and Damon lays into him. Two other vamps show up and Alaric takes care of them. In the midst of this Fredrick gets away. After fighting off one last vamp, Damon and Alaric take off, but have to go back in the house when six more vamps show up outside. They barricade themselves in.

Elena walks Stefan to the car, but as soon as they get there, Fredrick slings Stefan on the ground and stakes him. Elena manages to stab a vervain dart in the back of Fredrick’s back to stop him, but Stefan is losing consciousness. Elena thinks of the only thing that can save him: blood. So she makes Stefan drink hers!!!!! He refuses at first, but he relents and does it and Pandora’s Box has been opened, people. When Fredrick comes to, he sees Stefan still lying on the ground. He goes to finish of the job, but Stefan awakes, fully vamped out and continually stakes Fredrick. Elena runs from her hiding place and tries to stop Stefan, but he violently pushes her away. After realizing what’s going on, Stefan comes to and devamps.

While Damon and Alaric wait for the vampires to enter the house, they hear Pearl’s voice and when she opens the door, she is shocked to see Damon, who reveals the vamps activities in her absence. Pearl is visibly disturbed about what went down and apologizes for her vamps’ insolence. Damon and Alaric are allowed to leave in peace.

Back at the Salvatore mansion, Stefan tells Elena how sorry he was and that he appreciates Elena trying to save him. Elena gets a call and has to leave. Keep reading to see what that call was.

At the Mystic Grill, Damon gloats to Alaric how good they were despite their animosity, but Alaric decks Damon and then leaves the bar. Damon takes it in stride and continues celebrating by drinking.

Mother Doesn’t Approve, Anna…

Anna and Jeremy have a date at the Mystic Grill. Anna notices Jeremy’s vervain bracelet that Elena gave him. Jeremy tries to give it to Anna, but she makes him keep it. Jeremy brings up being turned again and explains that he has never fit in and thinks that vampirism would help fill that void in his life. Sad, but true statement, yall. Anna says that vamps only turn humans when they are bored, want revenge, do their dirty work, and if they are head over heels in love with them. Jeremy hasn’t met any of that criteria yet. Jeremy says that he likes Anna and she thinks its because of her ‘gift’ of eternal life, but Jeremy claims that he genuinely likes her and the little vamps head is bumped, yall.

Pearl shows up to pick up Anna and notices Jeremy, who Anna doesn’t reveal is a Gilbert. Anna is ready to leave, but has a change of plans when Mayor Lockwood and Tyler show up. Lockwood has his eye on Pearl for her vote and her body, which disgusts Tyler to no end. While Pearl digs dirt on the town and the Founders, Anna and Jeremy play text tag and Pearl finds out from Lockwood, who Jeremy really is.

While in the ladies room, Pearl confronts Anna on messing around with Jeremy since it was his family line that locked her up in the tomb. Forgot your lesson on patience you gave Fredrick, Pearl? She orders for Anna not to see him again, but Anna says she can take care of herself. Pearl reminds Anna of what might happen if her secret gets out and Anna spits out that she told Jeremy already and he likes that she is a vamp, because he likes her. Pearl smacks the taste out of Anna’s mouth and God knows that had to hurt!!!! As they leave, Anna texts Jeremy that she will turn him.

Caroline Makes The Grizzly Discovery We Have All Been Waiting For…

Caroline leaves to go meet up with her father for the weekend, but comes across some car trouble. She can’t call anyone from her car so she steps out to get a reception in the storm and tumbles down the side of a hill. She reaches to grab some support, but grabs the hand of a dead body instead. Only it’s not just any dead person’s hand…

Matt comes home to find Kelly cooking dinner, making up for her shenanigans since she got back. But before the two can enjoy their meal, there is a knock at the door. Matt opens it to find Caroline standing on his porch with Sheriff Forbes, both somber looking. Matt asks what’s going on and we know for a fact that Vicki’s body has finally been uncovered.

The news hits everyone, especially at the Grill as Mayor Lockwood tastelessly reveals the discovery to Tyler and Jeremy, who overheard. The two make their way to the Donovans’ where Kelly is in shock and Matt sits in Vicki’s room. Caroline tries to console Matt, but he asks to be alone. That is until Elena shows up and Matt hugs her and breaks down. Caroline looks like a hurt little puppy as she watches this display.

Jeremy returns home later and starts ripping up his findings on vampires. Anna shows up ready for action, but sees that Jeremy is upset. After Jeremy tells Anna about Vicki’s body being found, Anna quickly deduces that Jeremy really wanted to be turned to be with Vicki. Before Jeremy can apologize, Anna disappears from his room. Idiot…

Uh-Oh…

Damon returns home and finds empty bags of blood pouches in the living room. He follows the trail and finds Stefan devouring an full bag of human blood, looking shameful at his actions. Well there goes his 12 Step program…

From The Journals of The Founders

– So Vicki’s body was finally found. I am shocked that it was still intact after all this time. But this is The Vampire Diaries so…

– Stefan has fallen off the wagon and I can only see this throwing a SERIOUS monkey wrench in things. Hopefully, Damon won’t stir him down the wrong path.

– I was shocked at how Alaric helped out Damon and didn’t try to kill him in the process. I was waiting for the moment that Alaric would let his vengeance take over, but it never came. I wonder if it had anything to do with Elena being Isobel’s daughter or if Damon might be the one to help find Isobel. Either way, it was bizarre in a good way.

– Pearl better reprimand all vamps who took part in Fredrick’s coup and show no mercy. I say let Harper carry out the torture sessions since they did my boy dirty. I hope he stays around for awhile.

– No Bonnie?!?! WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

– I found it odd that Anna, being as old as she is, still didn’t see that Jeremy was using her. I would think that all the years as a vampire would teach her several things, one being how to tell when one is being played like a fiddle. I guess when you have the body of a teen, you will forever have to deal with them. Wouldn’t that be like an infinite hell or something?

See you guys next week! :D
