The Legend of Korra Episode 11 and 12 Review: Korra’s Season Finale

Episode 12, Endgame, starts in the mountains as Iroh formulates his attack on the secret Equalist airfield. He tasks Bolin to tear up the airstrips and they head off, as Bolin tells Naga and Pabu to stay. As they arrive at the surrounding fence, they are fooled into thinking it unfinished and are electrocuted. Sneaky electric fences.

At the Pro Bending stadium, Korra and Mako arrive in a box seat as Amon makes his stylish entrance onto the stage. Amon tells a story of Firebenders wiping out his family and scarring his face but Korra reveals herself, as she shouts at Amon for being a liar. The Lieutenant asks Amon is he wants her taken out but Amon is pleased she is there. Korra continues shouting, saying Amon is a Bloodbending Waterbender and she also reveals his family. Amon laughs off her claims and takes off his mask, to show everyone his scar. The crowd believe him, and call Korra a liar. Chi-Blockers come for Mako and Korra but Amon tells Korra not to leave in a hurry, as she’ll miss the main event. Tenzin and his Airbending children come up through the stage, restrained, and Korra is baffled, believing them to have gotten away.

Bumi the Wild OneAt the airfield, Mr Sato talks to Asami and the others. Asami tells him that her mother would hate him for what he’s done. He is outraged, saying he is avenging her. He tells Iroh that he intercepted his message to Bumi and knows where the other fleet is; they’re going to annihilate it. Iroh’s idea for escapes ends when he finds out Bolin can’t Metalbend. With no Equalists around, Naga smashed through the door’s to the prison and then crushes the bars holding them. Bolin is ecstatic.

Presumably, Pabu chews through the ropes because the next scene is the three of them on the attack! Bolin ends up on Naga as Iroh says he’s going after the planes. Asami sees an empty Mecha-Tank and gets in it. Iroh easily takes out a pilot but struggles to keep the craft in the air himself. He’s still pretty bad-ass though.

Back at the stadium, Amon claims he will rid the world of Airbending and he baits Korra. Mako shoots lightning at the stage and in the smoke, Korra and Mako Firebend their way onto the stage. They start launching fire at the Chi-Blockers and Mako continues the assault as Korra frees Tenzin and the children. Tenzin attacks, knocking two Equalists off the stage. Amon dodges Mako and Tenzin’s attacks but Tenzin eventually knocks him off, as Korra tells the kids to follow her.

Korra and Mako volunteer to cause a distraction, as Tenzin and his kids go to free Pema and baby Rohan. Korra Firebends into the corridors to slow Amon don but he burst through the flames. In a warehouse looking room, Amon fins Korra, Bloodbending her from her hiding place. Mako tries to help but he too has his blood bent and the two of them are at the mercy of Amon. Mako watches hazily, as Amon takes Korra’s bending, in shocking yet inevitable move. He adds that he told her he would destroy her.

Korra's bending is goneUp in the skies, Iroh is following the planes headed for Bumi’s fleet. He shoots lightning at one of the planes and it takes out another one with it. Iroh’s plane is taken out by a bolo but as he falls through the sky he does a great Human Torch impression and lands on another plane. Firebending, he takes out another plane and dethrones the pilot, taking over yet another plane. Looking up, he is about to be bombed but having learned from the attack on the ship earlier, he Firebends at the bombs and as they blow they take the last plane with them. His lane spirals out of control and, heading for the Aang statue, he manages to get out and hold onto the large flag, as the plane knocks the Amon mask off of the statue.

At the airfield, Bolin is wrecking the airstrips, Earthbending. Three Mecha-Tanks come for him but as they shoot their grappling claws at him, Naga catches them in her mouth and pulls the Mecha-Tanks down. In the hanger, Asami is smashing planes in her Mecha-Tank. Her father, Mr Sato appears in a Mecha-Tank of his own and once again they discuss Asami’s mother but they end up fighting. Mr Sato is much better in his Mecha-Tank and pins Asami, saying he now sees no chance to save her. Before he can destroy her, Bolin comes riding in on Naga, Earthbending rocks and telling Mr Sato he’s the worst father ever. Asami capitalises and beats Mr Sato’s Mecha-Tank. She admits to herself that he is a crappy dad, as she shoots an electric bolo at him.

In the stadium, Amon continues Bloodbending Mako and Korra. The Lieutenant sees it and realises Korra was telling the truth about Amon. He takes his mask off and charges at Amon, who easily Bloodbends him and after saying he had served him well, launches the Lieutenant into a wall. Mako manages to resist the Bloodbending however, and manages to shoot lightening at Amon, which send him flying across the room. Shaken, Mako gets up and Firebends a few scraps onto Amon and then picks up Korra and runs.

In the corridor, Korra is worried about her bending but as Mako is reassuring her, Amon Bloodbends him. Korra goes flying onto the floor as Mako is smashed from wall to wall by Amon. Amon is impressed by Mako and says it’s almost a shame to take the bending of one so talented. Before he can take Mako’s bending however, something beautiful happens. Korra jumps up and shouts no, sending an airblast right at Amon. Amon lands on his feet, saying it’s impossible, but Korra can Airbend, and she proclaims it loudly. It’s about time, love.

Korra attacks using Airbending, knocking Amon further back in the corridor. He tries to Bloodbend her but she resists, knocking him out of the window and into the water. His mask falls off. The non-bender crowd are angered but as Amon’s scar washes off in the water he rises from it on a column of water. The crowd realise that Korra was telling the truth about Amon. He flees, as Mako tries to shoot him with Firebending. They hug at the broken window.

At the Air Temple, ‘˜Noatok’appears in front of Tarrlok. Tarrlok says he should have went with them when they were boys but Noatok says the can leave there and then, adding that Tarrlok is all he has left in the world. Later on, at the Air Temple jetty, all the good guys are there. (Except Iroh) Beifong can’t believe Amon got Korra. Bolin thinks that Korra unlocking her Airbending is pretty cool, but is quickly shut up. Tenzin congratulates Korra for saving Republic City but she’s concerned that Amon got away. A ship hoves into view and Tenzin’s kids are excited to see uncle Bumi, Tenzin isn’t thrilled. Bumi looks just as crazy as his namesake.

Noatok and Tarrlok are speeding away on a boat and Noatok says there’s nothing the two of them can’t do together. Tarrlok agrees, calling him Noatok. Noatok sys he’d almost forgot the sound of his name but as he’s talking Tarrlok looks at his back, and then the Equalist gauntlets. Tarrlok unscrews the fuel cap and putting on a gauntlet say it’ll be like the good old days. A tear rolls down Noatok’s face and then the boat is blown up. Tarrlok blew it up; they’d better come back for next season.

Korra Loves Mako!At the Southern Water Tribe, everyone awaits news and Katara comes out of Korra’s room. She says Korra can’t be cured; she can still Airbend but her connection to the other elements is severed. Korra comes out of her room and just walks past them all, disagreeing with Tenzin’s statement that everything will be alright. Mako follows Korra outside but she tells him she’s no longer the Avatar and to go back to Republic City. He says he doesn’t care about her being the Avatar, He says when Tarrlok took her, he realised he loves her. Smooth Mako. She runs away, getting on Naga.

At the edge of a cliff, Korra finds herself crying and curls to the floor. She tells Tenzin she wants to be alone but its Aang. Korra is finally connecting with her spiritual self; she called Aang. The chain of Avatars past appear, as Aang explains it’s at her lowest point when she is most open to change. They all go into the Avatar state and Aang Energybends Korra. Korra herself reaches the Avatar state, her bending restored. Mako, the stalker, appears behind her and she runs to him. They hug and Korra tells him she loves him too, and they share another kiss. Awww, silly teenagers.

At a Temple nearby, Korra Energybends Beifong, restoring her Bending, she demonstrates it and thanks Korra. Tenzin says he is proud of her, calling her Avatar Korra. There, the season ends. And what a season it has been. We have been introduced to a much tougher Avatar, an amazing city, a top notch list of support characters and brilliantly evil villains. The Legend of Korra had such a lot of hype to live up to but I firmly believe it has surpassed The Last Airbender series already, and can only get better with season to being animated as we speak (I write, you read, etc). Nickelodeon should be using this time to sign up DiMartino and Konietzko for a third season, it would be foolish not to. The animation, story and oh my god, the music; everything about this show has been amazing from start to finish and TV land will be a much duller place without it. Korra my dear, you are already a legend.
