Tonight’s The Bachelor was drama-filled, and more than a little uncomfortable. The fun that was present when everything was fresh and new has long since melted away, and the impending seriousness of what is ahead and only one month away has replaced it full-sale.
That’s not a good thing. It’s becoming more and more unnerving to watch these people make massive life decisions and put themselves out there, and to know that all but one will ultimately be rejected. Worse, it’s on national television, and that adds a layer of discomfort. I’ve only truly disliked two of the girls, and both are gone; so now, every time the house turns on a contestant or one gets their heartbroken, it actually matters.
Three girls went home tonight on The Bachelor: Britt, Carly, and Jade. As much as I love Britt, it was time for her to go; she got screwed by Carly, yeah, but she was clearly losing her interest, and it was better for the both of them in the end. Carly, I’ve made my feelings clear; but she was even worse this episode. But Jade?
Jade’s been the dark horse of the last few episodes. Starting with the Cinderella date, she rose to what I thought was comfortable final-two position. But her late start is what ultimately ended her time on the show.
I think it’s appropriate to wonder about how much her Playboy revelation affected her chances. Chris chose Becca, Whitney, and Kaitlyn over her, and while I agree with two of those choices, the inclusion of Becca baffles me. There’s nothing wrong with her, but she doesn’t bring anything to the table that is particularly different from the rest of the girls. I’m wracking my brain for a reason to pick Becca over Jade, and this is the only explanation I can come up with.
To be fair: Chris handled the Playboy stuff with aplomb. I just can’t help but wonder if that gave a little negative jolt.
But Jade’s gone, now. All of my favorite contestants have been eliminated. Kinda sucks. Next week is the fantasy suite, which is a weird concept for me: is there no sleeping together before this moment? I wonder if that’s like an ABC mandate: no bedroom stuff until a certain amount of time has passed. People are much more casual about intercourse these days, so the idea that they wouldn’t engage in coitus for ten weeks is a little strange.
I think that Chris made a mistake letting Jade go. I almost hope that in the next few episodes he decides to bring her back, because dude was bawling his eyes out after she left. It was supposed to be her, I think. I really thought she was gonna steal the show. Britt, too. Britt’s problem was that she was lapping the field, and she felt she had already won the competition; she got restless. So, okay, yeah; sucks. But Jade? She ticked all the boxes! There is no reason she doesn’t win handily.
But anyways. RIP in pepperoni, Jade and Britt. You two were great.

Stray Thoughts
– This show is a legit drama. Like, wow. I know that The Bachelor doesn’t have writers (they have “story producers,” which is a nice middle finger to their creative staff), but they do a good job.
– Watching reality television is exhausting.
– “Rap Artist” Dude would just not say rapper.

Good assessment of all the women, and very accurate on when each one’s time is up. I like that you’re on to Carly, and not giving her a pass, like most media did today – she’s eaten alive with jealousy over gorgeous Britt, and buried Britt under a mountain of ugly duckling hate tonight. What a bitter b*tch!! Very glad Chris booted her, and her perennially surprised eyebrows!
