Here’s What ‘Suicide Squad’ Needs to Succeed

Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn

Show the Definitive Harley Quinn

It’s impossible to overstate just how important the character of Harley Quinn is to fans of the DC Universe. Since her introduction in Batman: The Animated Series, audiences have been completely enamored by the Joker’s partner-in-crime (and elsewhere…). What could have simply been a one-and-done character for a cartoon turned into one of the strongest and well-respected female characters in comics history.

For Suicide Squad to succeed, it needs to show a definitive portrayal of the character. The humor and psychosis have to work in tandem, but the character also has to have heart. She should be “sexy,” but not fetishized. We also need to see a clear path for why Harleen Quinzell becomes who she really is.

Luckily for us, Margot Robbie and David Ayer seem to understand the character. If nothing else, it’s hard to argue that fans are pretty excited to see how this character comes to life on the big screen.
