Stephen Colbert wasted no time talking about Black History month on the Late Show last night. While Beyonce shared some great news about her pregnancy with twins, Donald Trump didn’t exactly celebrate in such a positive way. Colbert began the segment by wishing everyone a “Happy Black History Month!” He went right into the Beyonce pregnancy to which the audience applauded. “All the double babies, all the double babies.”
Then Colbert went right into the Trump bashing. “Today marks another celebration of Black History Day by a person of color, Donald Trump.” Trump held a press conference to honor African American luminaries. However, Colbert explains that it’s really just the two people sitting beside him since that’s all the black people he knows. And if there was one thing Donald Trump was not, it was enthusiastic during this press conference.
The biggest message from Trump was actually praising one of the most influential African Americans, Frederick Douglass but speaking about him in present tense. Social media had an uprising making fun of Trump’s knowledge about Douglass. Clearly Trump didn’t really know who he was considering he’s been dead for well over 100 years. Then Trump goes on to mention essentially the most famous African Americans in history. Colbert calls him out on it.
