Spider-Man: Homecoming has released yet another trailer for the film that is due out in theaters on July 7th. I’ve got one word to describe this latest clip: humor. Marvel’s pretty big on humor in their action films but I feel like it’s to the tenth power in this particular trailer. The editing, the music, nearly every single moment is intended to make us laugh. And if the studios want to emphasize this whole mentor angle with Tony Stark then they are succeeding admirably. Whether or not that will translate into a solid movie is another subject altogether.
But so far the way in which I feel this film is being marketed is on the comedic side. And why shouldn’t it be? Look at Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel. I just hope they don’t overdo the humor too much. I mean it’s one thing to be tongue in cheek and make fun of the fact you’re a superhero and it’s another to do Deadpool. I would think this installment of Spider-Man will know the difference, or at least I hope so.
Here’s the synopsis of the film and trailer below:
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine — distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man — but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
