There has been a lot of chatter over the airwaves concerning the political aspirations of rock star Kid Rock. It has been rumored that Kid Rock is seriously considering running for a U.S. Senate seat. Actually, it is more than a rumor. Earlier this week the rock star directed his fans to a www.kidrockforsenate.com where it highlights his platform and the ideology behind why he would be a successful politician. While many experts, including those at larger media outlets, are dismissing this a nothing more than a publicity stunt, we would warn that you may want to take this celebrity seriously.
The Idea of a Publicity Stunt
It is not unheard of for celebrities and even businesses to manufactured exposure through what is called a publicity stunt. Some celebrities have even had their publicist release negative information about them in order to create a stir. The saying is “all publicity is good publicity.” However, Kid Rock has gone on record to say that while he has been making music, he has no intent on releasing an album in the near future, which would snuff out the idea that he is simply looking to build a buzz before the release.
The truth is that there are plenty other ways for a character like Kid Rock to remain relevant to the public.
It Is More Than Possible
So is it possible that we could be hearing the moniker Sen. Robert Ritchie anytime in the near future? As wild as it seems, it is more than possible, while I am not certain at the level of probability, the possibilities are quite clear. First of all, we have had a president who was a movie star. A California governor who was an immigrant turned movie star and a U.S. senator that was a movie star, and they had very successful careers.
The question is can Kid Rock build the right political team around him beginning with the right campaign manager, which will be key in mounting the type of campaign that will be efficacious in unseating a U.S. senator? Also, will he be willing to part ways with people who have been in his camp for years but may pose a threat to a successful campaign? The image of a rocker and a U.S. politician are distinctly different, and his image is one of the greatest challenges that Kid Rock will face if he chooses to run for senate.
What About Experience?
Another area in which there will be questions is the lack of experience in government politics. While experience is definitely important, it is not always the most experienced person who wins, but the one that can most effectively sell their vision to their constituents. Remember, President Barack Obama was a junior state senator when he ran for U.S. Senator and he was a junior U.S. Senator when he ran for president, never having written any legislature in either position, but he was extremely effective in selling his vision.
Kid Rock is more informed than people give him credit for, and he is connected to the people, which is a major plus. If I were you, I would not write him off in his quest to move into politics. Plus, it will be a hell of a ride, win or lose.
