Ryan Coogler Explains Why He Isn’t Directing Creed II

If you saw the 2015 release of Creed, based on the Rocky films, you’re probably quite impressed with the directing capabilities of Ryan Coogler. A lot of people don’t know it, but that was actually one of his very first projects. Even today, the up-and-coming director of Black Panther has only directed three major motion pictures in his career. If he is already displaying this much natural ability for directing, just imagine what types of movies he will be capable of making in 10 or even 20 years when he has a wealth of experience to rely on.

Lately, there’s been a lot of talk in the news about a sequel to Creed that is supposed to be released later on this year if everything goes well. While there seems to be a lot of excitement centered around its release, a lot of fans were actually disappointed to learn that Coogler will not be directing the sequel as well. Many people were curious as to why he made this decision and fortunately, he seemed to be more than happy to discuss things when the question was recently posed to him.

He said that it had nothing to do with him not caring about the project whatsoever. In fact, he cared about the original so much that it was actually emotionally difficult for him to complete the project. As such, there is a lot of emotion that is involved with the second project as well. While he didn’t come right out and say it, he hinted around that he might be too emotionally attached to this project in general to objectively direct the sequel. What he did say was that there was also a scheduling conflict that made it virtually impossible for him to direct this movie due to other commitments that he already had going on.

He also commented on the individual that was eventually chosen to direct the film in his place, Steven Caple, Jr. He mentioned that the two of them went to film school together and that he has a great deal of respect for Caple. He feels like the film will be excellent because it is in good hands and he looks forward to the finished product when it is released later on this year.

All in all, it seems like fans have a lot to look forward to with the sequel, regardless of who is directing it. This is a story that many fans of the original Rocky series flocked to when Creed was released back in 2015. Since then, they have been anxiously awaiting a sequel to that particular film as well. There are also several individuals that weren’t even alive when Rocky was made that are finding newfound interest since Creed was released. All of these individuals are excited that a sequel is in the making and can’t wait to see what it is like when it hits the theaters.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much more news about this particular film, at least not at the present time. It seems like a lot of the information about the film is being kept under wraps until filming is completed. Hopefully, fans won’t have to wait too much longer to see what the sequel is all about.
