“Roseanne” Cast Wants to Give The Blue Collar Community Representation

The Roseanne cast wants us to know that the show is going to be giving the blue collar community better representation in TV. Wait for it, I think I heard a cricket. It’s not that there are a few political leans to the show, but the fact that the show was for the blue collar community back in the day when it was still popular. Now that it has a chance to do it again it seems kind of redundant to say the same thing, but perhaps it’s just reiterating the fact so that people will know that the Connor’s have changed.

If you remember the show then you recall that the Connor’s were never rich and had to struggle to get by at times since they were always a blue collar family. Nowadays things like not having healthcare and the fact that Dan and Roseanne are still working because they didn’t have a retirement plan are issues that people care about and want to see on TV. The show has definitely changed in the years since it went off the air and it’s not going to give up the formula of staying on topic that it had back then. Instead of the issues of that time period however they’re going to be sticking to the here and now when it comes to relating to their viewers. The belief that there aren’t a whole lot of blue collar families on TV is very real since if you take a look the only ones you might see are reruns, while the rest are those that are extremely privileged and don’t want for much since they come from very affluent families. That’s part of America for certain but it’s not the entire country.

Blue collar families love to watch just about anything but being able to see a representation of their life is something special since it means that Hollywood is listening and paying attention to them in a way that makes their voices heard. It might be pure entertainment and not meant to be anything political or meant to make a statement but it does that all the same. People in this country that identify as blue collar sometimes feel stepped on by those in the fabled one percent that don’t seem to identify with a life spent scraping and scratching for everything you can get. Sometimes it’s important to remind those folks that living high up in their ivory towers is not the norm and the reality is that the people they depend on the most for their riches are those that live in the suburbs, the ghettos, and anywhere else people get up early in the morning to go make a few bucks to survive and take care of their families.

That’s what the Connor’s were all about back and in the day and that seems to be where they’re headed now. And for a lot of people it’s like the good old days again.
