Robbie Amell, otherwise known as Robert Amell IV, is a famous actor with a filmography and TV roster that spans almost 20 years. He’s been in the acting game for such a long time now, and his jaw-dropping list of acting credits and performances only add to his less-steep yet constantly growing global appeal! The Upload star, who initially rose to fame with The CW series The Tomorrow People, certainly knows how to pull out all the stops when it comes to his Hollywood career — whether it’s a rom-com or a sci-fi hit TV show, Amell has never really missed the mark.
Another cool thing about Robbie Amell is that he’s the cousin of Stephen Amell who played the ever-famous Oliver Queen, or should we say, The Green Arrow in Arrow. A lot of people seem to mix these two famous cousins up, and then there are a few people who to this very day are shocked to find out they are related. However, their bloodline isn’t the only thing the two cousins have in common — the Amell cousins are both superheroes in the Arrowverse as Robbie Amell too has played Ronnie Raymond in The Flash, right next to Stephen Amell’s Arrow in some Arrowverse crossover episodes Let’s dig around and find more cool things about this young gun!
Robbie Amell’s Family Background and Early Acting Career
Robbie Amell is a Canadian-American actor and producer. His acting career began two decades ago as a child star of sorts. He credits his start to his mother, Jo Amell who played a part in the roles he got in commercials when he was six years old, alongside his sister. His acting career truly took off with his first breakout role in Cheaper By The Dozen 2, when he played the character, Daniel Murtaugh. His character was initially meant to be a background, non-speaking role, but as fate would have it, he ended up getting a few lines, and the rest, as they say, is history.
He went on to land bigger roles, from his role as Fred Jones in the famous Scooby-Doo films to his role as Wesley Rush in the unforgettable The Duff, all the way up to his role as Nathan Brown in the Sci-fi hit TV Show, Upload. Robbie Amell and his cousin, Stephen Amell have both starred in the hit science fiction film Code 8 where Robbie Amell played Connor Reed alongside his cousin who played Garrett.
If you’re a sucker for a real-life fairy-tale love story, it would please you to know that Robbie Amell got married to the famous actress, Italia Ricci (Designated Survivor) in October 2016. Amell and Ricci first met on the sets of Cheaper By The Dozen 2 in 2005, but their love story didn’t begin until they reunited in 2007. The two of them have appeared in a few projects together over the years including American Pie Presents: Beta House and True Jackson, VP.
He Got His First Major Acting Role in The CW Series ‘The Tomorrow People’
We can’t talk about Robbie Amell’s acting career without mentioning The Tomorrow People. The 2013 CW sci-fi series is credited as Amell’s first major acting gig where he played the role of Stephen Jameson, a teenager with extraordinary abilities that allows him to hear voices and teleport in his sleep till his journey leads him on a path to meet The Tomorrow People, a group of people with similar abilities!
The show starred Luke Mitchell and Peyton List in the other lead roles and was an excellent fiction-thriller back in the day — especially for people looking to recover from the cancellation of The Secret Circle. Unfortunately, the show was discontinued after Season 1. The silver lining here, however, is that the role opened Robbie Amell to a whole new world of sci-fi acting,

Robbie Amell Has Always Had a Knack for Fictional Characters
If there’s one thing Robbie Amell can nail out of the park, it is his innate ability to bring fictional characters to life. Talk about his role in The Flash, The Tomorrow People, Code 8, and now even Upload — we’ve seen it through and through in all the fun and charming characters he has played!
His lead role as Nathan Brown in Upload, which has clicked really well with the audiences lately, is of a software developer who dies, only to wake up in a virtual world, the equivalent of a metaverse. The show then goes on to touch on themes of time, AI, the metaverse, and the future. On top of it, his role perfectly embodies a personality that could often be described as charming, but also vain and egocentric. The characters Robbie Amell takes on, therefore, are more often than not, impressive and impactful, and some of his best works circle around really fascinating topics of fiction.
He Has Dual Citizenship
Both Italia Ricci and Robbie Amell, have dual (US/Canadian) citizenship and reside in Toronto at the moment. The celebrity duo had their firstborn, a son, Robert Amell V in 2019. Amell is currently trending for his role as Nathan Brown and the filming for Upload Season 4 is currently underway. Code 8’s sequel Code 8: Part 2 — his film with the other famous Amell was also released recently on February 28, 2024. Also, check out these 10 things that you probably don’t know about Robbie Amell.
