I’m wondering if the initial negative reaction to Alien: Covenant is making Ridley Scott rethink things a bit. Many media outlets who have had access to early screenings of the film haven’t been too gung-ho about it. Now all of a sudden Scott is publicly apologizing for Prometheus. Here’s what he recently said:
“It went straight up there, and we discovered from it that [the fans] were really frustrated. They wanted to see more of the original [monster] and I thought he was definitely cooked, with an orange in his mouth. So I thought: ‘Wow, OK, I’m wrong. The fans, in a funny kind of way – they’re not the final word – but they are the reflection of your doubts about something, and then you realize ‘I was wrong’ or ‘I was right.’ I think that’s where it comes in. I think you’re not sensible if you don’t actually take [the fans’ reaction] into account.”
As for his wild claim that he’d be making 5 or 6 sequels, Scott’s toned down on that as well.
“I don’t know. [I’ll make] maybe two more [films], or maybe one more, I don’t know.”
His next film, Alien: Awakening, which will start shooting within the next 14 months which I predict without a doubt will be his last Alien movie. I wonder if all this 5 or 6 movie stuff was just to get fans hyped and then Scott realized there was just no way that was happening? I’m starting to get a very bad feeling about Alien: Covenant.
