I’ll always remember Paula Marshall as the NYU grad student in the Seinfeld episode “Not that there’s anything wrong with that.” That’s not the technical name of the episode (it’s called “The Outing”) but it should be. Ever since that episode I always kept my eyes out for her. In that episode she looked like the quintessential girlfriend material type when you’re single and living in New York City. There was a time I was in that scenario and Marshall would have been a perfect fit.
Marshall also starred in one of my favorite short lived sitcoms called Hidden Hills which I think was way ahead of its time and just as good as any sitcom trying to capture what Suburbia is like. It only lasted one season but Marshall played a young wife and mother in her 30s struggling to find her way in the suburbs. She was smart, sexy, beautiful, everything you’d want in a wife.
She’s had consistent television roles ever since but it was her appearance in Californication that marked the perfect trifecta for me. Seinfeld she plays the hot NYU grad student who is perfect girlfriend material. Then she plays perfect wife material. In Californication she plays the perfect cougar.
Hopefully in her 60s she plays some kind of gorgeous grandma. Marshall is now 52 years old and as stunning as ever. Here’s to you Paula. I still have a crush on you. P.S. I know you were in The Wonder Years and even loved you then.
