ABC made a shocking decision yesterday by renewing its drama Quantico for a third season. This news is surprising to some as ratings for the series have not been the greatest during an uneven second season. Quantico will be back, but for only 13-episodes. The series’ showrunner Joshua Safran will continue on as a consulting producer. No one has been named his replacement yet.
When Quantico made a shift to Monday nights after it returned from a hiatus, ratings dropped to an average of 4.3 million viewers. It receives a tepid 1.3 rating in the coveted 18-49 age demographic too. Those numbers do not sound stellar by any means. However, Quantico performs well in the international market. This made the decision to renew a lot easier for ABC.
Quantico was one of ABC’s final series to receive a renewal. Other series that will be returning next season include Modern Family, The Goldbergs (both received 2 season renewals), The Middle, American Housewife, and Designated Survivor. Not all series on the alphabet network received good news like Quantico. The Real O’Neals, Dr. Ken, Imaginary Mary, and American Crime all got the axe.
Quantico premiered in Fall of 2015. The series stars Priyanka Chopra, Johanna Braddy, Jake McLaughlin, Yasmine Al Massri, and Blair Underwood.
