Season 4 Premiere: Monday, September 13 @ 8:00/7:00c pm on TheCW.
When we left Gossip Girl last year, we had an almost ‘Who Shot Chuck Bass?’ incident on our hands, but since we knew who shot GG’s resident bad boy, the cliffhanger question turned to “When Will Chuck Bass Recover and When Will He Reconnect With Blair?” Not as catchy as “Who Shot Chuck Bass?” I’m sure, but you get the drift. Before we get ahead of ourselves, let us take you back to those little cliffhangers that served as the second best on a CW show (behind The Vampire Diaries, that is).
What You Should Know
Daddy Issues – Serena had finally found her father Dr. William van der Woodsen who had returned to take care of Lily by curing her of cancer. But unbeknownst to Serena’s blind eye and everyone around him, William was in fact back to reclaim his family and push the Humphreys’ out the picture. Thanks to the power team of Chuck, Blair, Dan, and Nate, William’s plan was nixed and his duplicity was revealed to Serena, who let him go into the night again. This did not sit well with Nate and the two are now on the outs with each other. While Serena ran to Paris with Blair, Nate decided to take some pages from Chuck’s little black book and numb his pain.
Daddy Dan? – After being caught in a compromising situation with Serena by Jenny, who then sent a pic of said position to Vanessa, you would think Dan would get some much needed rest for the summer right? Wrong. Wait! Who was that? Of course, it was the finale, which called for Georgina Sparks to arrive and cause some hell. Since Dan spurned her at the beginning of the year, it would only suit her best that it would be him. But we weren’t expecting her to be… expecting. Expecting Dan’s child that is… This will not sit well with Vanessa one bit.
The Banishment of Little J – The platinum dye abuser known as Jenny Humphrey was given a gracious send off after causing enough destruction for denizens of the Upper East Side to file FEMA claims from the damage that transpired. Not only did Jenny send a GG blast that featured Serena and Dan, her own brother, in a compromising position, but she also was an instrument in destroying the long-awaited reunion of Chair, which made me fear for the girl’s life. Seriously, I was praying that Jenny wasn’t going to be sniped before she boarded the train out of town and out of the opening credits of next year. To give Jenny credit, she did realize the error of her ways before the whole Chuck debacle and, in my eyes, wasn’t trying to stick it to Blair before leaving, so I can’t fault her for that. Everything before hand? slap worthy.
The Smashing of “Chair”/Chuck Bass Down! – After the really messed up of break up of Chuck and Blair this year, we knew they were bound to get together by the finale. Just when that moment is about to happen, Chuck and Jenny’s tryst is revealed in the most inopportune moment, which was Chuck proposing to Blair. The blow sent Blair to Paris, the banishment of Jenny (which I think is a total crock, but that’s me) and Chuck to Prague, where he was shot(!!!) in a robbery attempt! Sacre bleu!!!
Now unless you have been living under a huge rock, the word on the street is that first episodes of Gossip Girl’s will take place mostly in Paris, with a culmination return of the Serena, Chuck, and Blair to the Fashion’s Night Out event that is set to take place later in the season.
What To Look For
Chuck’s Got A New Girl On His Arm – That’s right, people. Clémence Posey has been billed to suffer the consequences of being Chuck’s new girlfriend, Eva. She will be around for “multiple episodes”, which will incur the wrath of not only Blair, but fans of “Chair” as well. Seriously. There are petitions starting to have the poor girl taken out. Eva/Ms. Posey? May God be with you in this journey through hell…
Blair/Confused Serena – Short version: What else is new? Long version: Blair will find newfound power on Columbia’s campus, which was lacking during her tenure at NYU. (Stepping outside the majority vote Personally, I hope this doesn’t involve more bouts to have a social hierarchy in college, which from my experience was barely non existent. Why? Because people were in the process of growing up. I suggest Blair does the same. As for Serena, she will spend time in Paris playing the field, but really trying to figure out who to give her heart to when she returns to the Upper East Side: Dan or Nate? We hope she chooses Nate to stop me from vomiting over the entire semi-incest thing with Dan. Speaking of Dan and Nate…
Dan’s Dilemma – Dan will be raising Georgina’s kid with some help from a not too happy Vanessa. The key thing her is that it is Georgina’s kid, because we have yet to know if it’s really Dan’s or not. Oh, and expect Georgina to cause some hell during her stay. As usual.
Katie Cassidy – Damn, do we HONESTLY have to say more than those beautiful two words?!?! Fine! Katie Cassidy will serve as Nate’s latest love interest who will also give Blair and Serena a run for their money in the hellraising department. Expect her to be around for awhile (In our perfect little world, that would be “forever”).
Little J Returns – If the show is doing Fashion’s Night Out then it would be appropriate for Gossip Girl’s resident fashion designer to make a splashy reappearance right? Well, word on the street is that not only will Little J meet Tim Gunn, but she will also have to face Blair on why she’s back in the Upper East Side. Sources also say that Jenny’s stay is temporary, which spoils any chances of seeing Jenny put Blair in her place before leaving again. Just saying…
The Parental Units – Rufus and Lily will be blissful for awhile until Eric decides to bring up Chuck and Jenny’s first encounter. Yes, the one back from Season One, the not so pleasant encounter. Hell will explode, we’ve been told.
So that’s it for now, Upper East Siders. Tune in tomorrow for what could be the most explosive season of Gossip Girl yet…
