My name is Rich McLean and this is the first time I have shared a bit about myself and my art on Bored Panda.
I am a gay artist who is also an illustrator, author, advocate, and also in my third year of my PhD doctoral Studies at Victoria University, Melbourne. I have also been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Recovery from schizophrenia, or as I prefer to call it, ‘a psycho spiritual (sexual in my case), crisis’, it is likely and possible.
In indigenous cultures around the world a mentally ill person was seen as a gift to the community, the birth of a healer – and I hope you enjoy my art in the same light.
I also wrote an autobiography on my experiences of having experienced and recovering from ‘schizophrenia’, titled: ‘Recovered, Not Cured, a journey through schizophrenia’, and it is available at www.recoverednotcured.com.
