PaleyFest’s Silicon Valley panel was full of laughs and interesting anecdotes from both cast and crew. One particularly interesting moment came from Zach Woods, who portrays Jared on the HBO series.
In discussing how he approached his role, Woods said that he thought of Jared as a mother who works tirelessly to make an elaborate meal for her family, then proceeds to eat quickly over the sink, unaware that she is a martyr. The approach was met with interest from the audience as was Woods’ follow up. The actor stated that in order to get into character, he would look at Thomas Middleditch and think, “I love him, I love him, I love him,” which had the audience in hysterics.
Amanda Crew, who plays Monica on Silicon Valley, asked Woods what specific thing he chose to love about Middleditch, a common acting method, to which Woods hilariously replied with “Everything.” Thomas Middleditch himself chimed in on the fun, “Well I am the perfect amalgamation of bird and human,” he said, following up with, “and a dash of rat,” which resulted in one of the many laughing fits that the audience experienced that night.
