Outer Banks Season 4 is poised to reset and push the teen drama in a new direction. Since the series premiered in April 2020, it has revolved around hunting for lost treasure, and of course, John B’s (Chase Stokes) quest to find and reunite with his dad Big John (Charles Halford). He eventually does so in “Father and Sons,” Season 3, Episode 3. However, the reunion was shortlived as the season’s rollercoaster ending parts them again; this time for good.
Season 3 culminated in a climactic finale with twists and turns that saw the deaths of Big John and Ward Cameron (Charles “Chip” Esten). While this signals the end of the dramas around the lost gold of El Dorado, the end scene teases another adventure to find the lost treasure of Edward Teach. This seems to have set the stage for the Pogues in the upcoming installment. It remains to be seen if they will fully drop their teenage antics to embrace life as professional treasure hunters.
Netflix Greenlit Outer Banks Season 4 In February 2023
Outer Banks Season 4 was approved before Season 3’s arrival on February 23, 2023. Earlier that month, cast members of the action-adventure disclosed that the series had received the green light for a fourth installment. This was at Poguelandia, a fan event that recaptured the Pogues’ island paradise in Huntington Beach, California. With most of the series stars in attendance, Stokes announced the renewal to the crowd. “Outer Banks has been renewed for a fourth season,” he declared, “this is an incredible moment for all of us,” added the John B actor.
The co-creators and showrunners, Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke were excited to return for Season 4. They confirmed the renewal, thanking Netflix, the cast members, and fans of the show for another opportunity to continue the Outer Banks story. “The Pogues are enjoying an adventure of a lifetime, and we now get to map out more twists and turns as the joyride continues into season four… Thank you to Netflix, our cast, and the amazing fans who helped to make this happen.”
What To Expect From The Upcoming Season
As teased in Season 3’s finale, Outer Banks Season 4 will follow the Pogues in another action-packed adventure. This time, they will be hunting for the sunken treasures of Edward Teach, an English pirate also known as Blackbeard. In an interview session with Tudum, the showrunners divulged that the upcoming season will pick up from Season 3’s ending to tie up loose ends. Josh Pate particularly disclosed that Season 4 will address the 18-month time jump in Season 3’s finale.
“…We’re going to fill in some gaps in the 18 months,” he said, adding that the new season will feature “new villains, a new treasure hunt, (and) a new life situation.” Elaborating on that, his twin brother Jonas Pate revealed that Drew Starkey’s Rafe Cameron will be the bad guy in the forthcoming season. “If Chip was there, it was going to be hard for Rafe to elevate… we wanted him to do that in Season 4,” he explained, justifying the rationale behind Ward’s death in Season 3.
Who’s In The Cast Of Outer Banks Season 4?
Charles Halford and Charles Esten are off the show as their characters died in Season 3. Apart from these two, all the regular cast are expected to return for Season 4. These include Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline (Sarah Cameron), Madison Bailey (Kiara Carrera), J.D. (Pope Heyward), Rudy Pankow (JJ Maybank), Drew Starkey (Rafe Cameron), and Austin North (Topper Thornton). They will be joined by Tony Crane, Pollyanna Mclntosh, Brianna Brown, Rigo Sanchez, and Mia Challis for the new season. The new cast members were unveiled in February 2023, shortly after Outer Banks Season 4 was confirmed.
