Anime fans everywhere should rejoice because there’s a new show in town. No, it isn’t a new series but rather a new adaptation of a well-loved manga series. Last year, news broke that the Anime One Piece is getting a live-action adaptation. We’ve been on the edge of our seats since then, waiting for some news or hints as to the progress of the show. Very few details have surfaced about the new adaptation, and it has left fans hopeless and hungry for information. Finally, we’re getting some new One Piece updates that will be enough to hold us over further.
The updates are coming straight from the creator of the series himself, Eiichiro Oda, Japanese manga artist, screenwriter, and film producer. Oda wants fans to know that the project is moving forward into production–something he’s been thrilled about recently. We all knew that if this were to ever go into production and distribution, it would be the first true live-action adaptation of an anime series in Hollywood. Oda is positive that it’s going towards the right direction, especially since he is in the helm of everything. The artist is quite proud of the work he’s done with One Piece, and he’s surely not letting Hollywood mess anything up–something for which Hollywood is infamous.
According to Oda, he has already met with Marty Adelstein, the executive producer for the project, and the vibes are all positive. Oda’s and Adelstein’s visions are all in line towards the primary goal for the project, which is to respect the fans. Oda admits that before the meeting, he was more than anxious about the adaptation. The meeting with Adelstein seemed to settle his nerves a bit because Oda is more than excited to proceed with the live-action series. He will be involved deeply with the production, so fans can be reassured that the One Piece they know and love will be the One Piece they’ll see in the live-action series.
One Piece is all about the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his band of bandits known as the Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy was just an average boy, when his body suddenly acquired rubber-like properties after eating a Devil Fruit unintentionally. With his powers and his pirates, Luffy seeks to become the next pirate king by obtaining the One Piece–the world’s ultimate treasure. One Piece is a nonstop show of adventure that will just be incredible as a live-action series, if done right.
One Piece offers the best of the best in anime. This best-selling manga series has given fans wonderful and colorful stories, amazing characters, unrelenting humor, and many more. The only thing that we all can hope for is that Hollywood does it enough justice to be legit. We’d hate for One Piece’s latest venture to be unsuccessful. Hollywood is certainly taking its time with production, and we hope that it isn’t because Hollywood doesn’t quite know what they’re getting into. Rather, we’re hoping they’re taking their time simply because they’re handling the project very carefully and nothing less.
