Television is not just for entertainment. With reality television shows, we learn the true nature of people as we see them for who they are. Big Brother season 21 premiered on June 25, 2019, with 16 contestants among whom is Nick Maccarone. Bustle and Romper got a chance to interview him, and among the many things we learn from his revelations, here are ten facts to let you in on who Nick is.
1. He is a therapist
Nick is a licensed associate counselor whose aim is to get the best treatment for his patients. Although he was ready to lie and say he is a child mentor, Nick’s profession involves working with patients with all sorts of issues ranging from mental, to behavioral to emotional disorders and problems. It is no wonder that he wants mental health problems patients not to be stigmatized. Nick uses his training to encourage his patients to open up about their emotions to improve their mental health, and his areas of expertise are in anxiety, trauma, and depression, among others.
2. He is close to his mother
There has always been this belief that girls are close to their fathers while boys are close to their mothers. Whether true or not, Nick is close to his mother, and now that he will be away from her, he will have a hard time adjusting and to him, that is an experience that sucks according to e Daily Buzz.
3. He is a sports fanatic
Nick is not just a person who loves watching sports; he also participates in them. So much does he love sports that if he were allowed he would bring a football or baseball into the house, revealing his two favorite games. Nick is so good at baseball and football that he caught a foul ball at a Phillies game and became an NFL scout.
4. He can be manipulative
Not everyone who smiles at you is your friend, and sometimes those who are your friends turn out to be your enemies. If only the fellow house guests on big Brother paid attention to these pieces of advice, they would stay alert and wary of Nick Maccarone. Nick is a trained therapist, and he is bent on using his training to take advantage of his colleagues by luring them into creating an alliance with him.
5. He is a people pleaser
If there is one thing that most people hate is a person who kisses ass and Nick Maccarone is not afraid to do so. Even with $500,000 prize money at stake, Nick is the kind of person who would rather not win it and keep everyone happy than piss everyone off and get the money. In Nick’s opinion, a person who is hated is a snake or a rat who keeps airing their personal opinions or doing something that is not to everyone’s liking, and Nick is not ready to be hated.
6. He hoped to win the first HOH
Nick must believe that history repeats itself because he thought that just because two houseguests of previous seasons of Big Brother became the first HoHs, he would use the same strategy to ensure that he remained in the house for longer. Nick was not looking to be the first person to be evicted and was hoping to form an alliance with the title of being the first head of Household coming in handy. Unfortunately it did not work out because Christie became the first HOH but he still got to be the head of household in the third week.
7. He began watching Big Brother from season 17
Big Brother is almost two decades old on CBS, but Nick Maccarone was not interested in the reality show until its season 17. With such a history, it is fair to say, he is not a big fan and whatever changed his mind to begin watching must have been convincing enough also to get him to become a contestant then again, $500,000 is a reason enough for anyone to become a part of any show.
8. He does not mind lying
The thing about lies is that they break people’s trust because it is hard to believe anything that comes from the mouth of someone who keeps lying to you. For someone afraid of being hated, Nick does not have a problem with lying, yet we know that such behavior can ruin relationships; talk about double standards. Nick is ready to lie to his fellow houseguests about his profession and tell them that he is a child mentor, saying that it is not that much of a difference from his therapist profession. Maybe he will have us believe that cookies and muffins are not that different since they are snacks.
9. He believes he is a good person
Everyone wants to believe that they are good people because admitting that you are wrong takes a lot of courage which most of us do not have. Nick is one of those people who thinks that he is genuinely a good person who cares about people. Perhaps it is this that has him thinking that he is doing the houseguests favor by holding onto his poop until later because he wants the beautiful ladies to have a conducive environment for as long as possible, as reported in E Daily Daily Buzz.
10. He is an alumnus of Rowan University
Nick grew up in Sewell, New Jersey and did not move far away from home to receive his education for his undergraduate studies. He went to Rowan University in Glassboro where he got his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2014. Determined to be a therapist, Nick furthered his studies still in Rowan University by getting a masters of Arts degree majoring on in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program, and he graduated in 2016.
