Recently, it has been announced that Michelle Williams will be playing an important part in the new Venom movie. Given that the people behind the movie have been interviewing a number of candidates over the course of the past month, it should come as no surprise to learn that said role happens to be a starring role. As a result, Michelle Williams will be starring the movie opposite Tom Hardy, who will be playing the titular character.
For those who are curious, Michelle Williams is a veteran actress who has won numerous awards and accolades for her performances so far, with a stand-out example being a Critics’ Choice Movie Award for her role in Brokeback Mountain. Recently, she has received much praise for her role in Manchester by the Sea, which resulted in a slew of nominations. Summed up, Michelle Williams is a veteran actress, meaning that her having been chosen to star in the new Venom movie should be regarded as encouraging news.
What Is the Venom Movie?
Some people might be curious about the news of the new Venom movie. If so, they should know that it will indeed be centered around the character of the same name, who has been one of the better-liked parts of the Spiderman mythos ever since he was introduced in 1988. However, said movie is not connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe like the new Spiderman movie. Instead, it is supposed to be part of what has been called the Sony’s Marvel Universe, which will consist of movies centered around characters connected to Spiderman in some manner.
While the new Venom movie is still in the earlier stages of the production process, there is still a fair amount of information that has been released about it so far. For example, we know that the character called Carnage will be showing up in the movie. Since said character is much more murderous than Venom, who has been known to play a heroic role from time to time, it should come as no surprise to learn that he will be serving as the antagonist of the movie. With that said, the more interesting piece of news might be the reveal that Venom’s ex-wife Ann Weying will be showing up in the movie as well. This is interesting because Ann Weying was a lawyer in the comic books, while it has been said by some sources that Michelle Williams’s character will be a district attorney. Combined with a statement from those same sources that her character might be Venom’s love interest, it seems possible that her character is Ann Weying. Of course, this is no more than speculation at this point in time, meaning that interested individuals should not put too much faith in it but instead wait for more news to come out.
Otherwise, we know a fair amount about the other people who are involved in the new Venom movie. For example, Ruben Fleischer is the director, who is why he is said to have had an important part in choosing Michelle Williams for the role. Furthermore, both Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner are involved as screenwriters, while Riz Ahmed has been chosen to play a role that remains unknown for the time being. Anyways, as progress is made on the production, more news is bound to come out.
