If you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes, then you have likely appreciated the hit CBS drama Elementary for the last few years. It has been a great run, but sadly it is about to come to an end. This is one show that will almost certainly have a great deal of success in syndication, but until then there is still one more season to go. The show is obviously based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s character of Sherlock Holmes. In the show, Sherlock has actually been disgraced and forced to flee his native London. He ends up in Manhattan after going through a time of rehab. Upon getting to his new home, he quickly finds out that his own father has sent a sober companion to stay with him. This is quite the couple. Dr. Joan Watson is actually a former surgeon. Her own license to practice medicine was taken away several years earlier because she lost a patient. Her life now revolves around helping individuals who are addicts get their feet back on the ground and stay clean. This is how she works to resolve her own demons from the past. They end up working together to tackle some rather difficult criminal cases the New York Police Department ends up throwing their way. Along the way, quite a cast of characters have come and gone during the show’s seven season run. For this final season, here is the main cast that you can look forward to watching on a weekly basis.
Johnny Lee Miller Plays Sherlock Holmes
Johnny Lee Miller is obviously the main character here. He has actually starred in every episode of Elementary, so it is nice to have him back for this final season. He has a witty personality, is almost always sassy, and the essence of why so many people continue to tune in week after week. He plays Sherlock Holmes. This is the main character who has some extreme detective powers that are rather impressive. This is why he is always sought out by the New York Police Department to solve their most difficult and elusive cases. Throughout the seven seasons, he has been able to work effectively to close many of the trickiest crimes that have been presented to him. He does all of this while fighting to stay sober, often attending meetings right in the middle of a difficult case. It is a character that many people around the world can identify with.
Lucy Liu Plays Dr. Joan Watson
We get the picture that Sherlock Holmes would not survive in this how were it not for the presence of Dr. Joan Watson. Her character is played by Lucy Liu. Like Johnny Lee Miller, Liu has been ever episode of Elementary from the beginning. She is always by the side of Sherlock Holmes. Her initial function on the show was to be Holmes’ sober companion. While she continues to do that, she has also evolved into a solid partner who is able to help Sherlock Holmes solve the many crimes that the NYPD brings his way. Interestingly enough, Lucy Liu starred in a variety of films before coming to Elementary. These included Kill Bill, Chicago, and Charlie’s Angels.
Jon Michael Hill Plays Detective Marcus Bell
This show largely operates on the premise that the NYPD outsources some its most difficult cases to Sherlock Holmes. At the same time, the NYPD is still active in the case, and that usually comes in the form of Detective Marcus Bell. In season seven, the detective is played once again by Jon Michael Hill. He often arrives at various crime scenes ready to go over the details with Holmes and Watson in an effort to get the crime solved. Before coming to the cast of Elementary, on Michael Hill was fortunate enough to be on the HBO comedy show Eastbound and Down. He was also on the hit ABC dram Detroit 1-8-7.
Tamsin Greig Plays DCI Athelney Jones
The final episodes of Elementary are taking place back in London, so it makes sense that some British actor would make some cameo appearances. One of those is Tamsin Greig. He will pay the role of DCI Athelney Jones when certain cases take Holmes and Watson from New York to London. Tamsin Greig is most well known for her appearances on Green Wing and Black Books. These are both popular comedies that air on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom.
Ophelia Lovibond Plays Kitty Winter
Long time Elementary viewers will remember that Ophelia Lovibond first appeared in Season 3, and then again in Season 5. She comes back for the final season and is playing the role, Kitty Winter, once again. She is a brilliant, funny, and witty addition to the cast. Before coming to Elementary, she was on the cast of the hit BBC comedy Q1A. She has also played some minor roles in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Elton John’s Rocketman.
Aidan Quinn Plays Captain Thomas Gregson
Quinn is one of the cast members who has been in every season of Elementary. He plays the role of Captain Thomas Gregson, who is boss of Detective Bell. He is also in charge of the police department. Prior to Elementary, Quin played major roles on Prime Suspect and The Book of Daniel.
So, there you have the main cast of Season 7 of Elementary. The season is slated to have a total of 13 episodes. At the end of it, there will no doubt be many sad fans around the world. Surely, the cast will see the end of the show as bittersweet as well. It was a brilliant rendition of a classic story. The plots were all unique, and viewers could really identify with the turmoil and life that strife threw at each member of the show. That is the essence of a great show, and it is why so many people around the globe are going to be tuning in to the final season of Elementary this summer and fall.
