The young actress’ fine interpretation of Rory in The Net Will Appear laid the groundwork for her career growth. In 2018, barely a year after the Mile Square Theatre performance, Matilda Lawler was tapped for her Broadway debut—she played Honor Carney in Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre’s production of Jez Butterworth’s The Ferryman. Her screen debut came the next year as Brenda in the “October 31” episode of Evil, a supernatural horror series starring Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi.
Matilda Lawler’s first big screen project was in The Block Island Sound. She played Emily in the 2020 sci-fi horror thriller written and directed by Kevin and Mattew McManus. That was also the year she played Young Nora in Nastasya Popov’s short comedy film Good Grief. In 2021, Lawler landed her first starring role in a movie.
