Mahershala Ali Set for True Detective Season 3: Who Will He Be?

Mahershala Ali Set for True Detective Season 3: Who Will He Be?

Mahershala Ali has been a star on the rise now for the past several years and has shown no sign of slowing down as he takes one commanding role after another. You might recognize him from House of Card or from Marvel’s Luke Cage, but the truth is that he’s been getting better and better as the years go on and he continues to rise in the Hollywood ranks. As of now he’s set to play in the next season of True Detective and will be a recurring character. He’s already read a great deal of the scripts and has found them to be engaging and something he can easily acclimate to.

So what else do we know? Who’s he playing on the show?

The addition of Ali is meant to bolster the third season, which almost didn’t happen.

While the first season was an acclaimed hit with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, the second season was kind of a jumbled mess by comparison. Bringing in Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and Rachel McAdams didn’t even halt the continuing fumble that was the second season. Because of the serious lack of intensity and drive that made the first season such a hit many people didn’t even know if the show would last past the second season. Ali should be able to bring some credibility back to the show.

He’ll be the show’s prime crime solver, but we don’t know his name yet.

So far it’s been established that Ali will be the lead man in the next season, but as of yet the studio is being extremely tight-lipped about the character’s name. Ali has read up to five scripts and has been impressed by all of them. The one thing that seemed to stymie the second season however was the lack of writers that collaborated to bring it to fruition. In season 3 the hope is that the story will be well-developed enough for the actors to follow a natural-sounding script that can help save the show. With Ali on board and already claiming that the scripts are sound this leaves many people thinking that perhaps there is some hope for the series.

The show won’t air until 2019.

This might sound like a hard pill to swallow but the creators of True Crime aren’t taking any chances that they might bomb out again and are going every piece of the script with a fine-toothed comb in order to make certain that the dialogue is on point and their actors are set before they decide to begin production and then deliver a finished product. With the unfortunate fumbling of season 2 you can’t really blame them. They want the fire and magic of the first season to return, and with Ali leading the way that might just be possible.

It might seem like a long time to wait but if you enjoy the show then the anticipation should already be building. The promise of a new and exciting actor should give fans a little hope that the third season will be something much like the first.
