Lebron James to Produce Remake of 90s Classic “House Party”

It seems Lebron James is going to take Hollywood head on by producing a transformation of the nineties classic ”House Party”. Founded by James and his partner, Maverick Carter, SpringHill Entertainment will produce the new spinoff of “House Party” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jamal Olori and Stephen Glover, who wrote the FX series ”Atlanta”, are going to be writing the new screenplay. The initial comedy, which was released in 1990 and featured the hip hop twosome of Kid ‘n Play, Kid and Play respectively. In addition, there were two sequels to the original movie, one in 1991 and the other in 1994.

A few years ago, James used Kid ‘n Play as a sort of punchline in a State Farm ad. It was clear that James was a big fan of both the hip hip duo and the movie they had starred in. So it’s no surprise that James has decided to deliver a new ”House Party” for a whole new generation. He says that the movie isn’t going to be a remake. Instead, it will be entirely new. James admits that everyone he knew when he was growing up loved the movie and he is thrilled to be able to partner with such a creative team to bring ”House Party” back for another generation.

SpringHill Entertainment has already collaborated with Drake on two separate occasions, one of which was for Netflix, and they say they are trying out some new ideas as well as musicians who will be either cast or used in another part of their exciting project. In addition, Carter mentioned that James may also appear in the movie after receiving such acclaim for his comedic role in ”Trainwreck.” Although at this point there’s no plan for him to be in it, it’s still not beyond reason. James is already known to be able to perform a lot of Kid n’ Play’s dance moves from the original movie, but whether or not he’ll be able to utilize those moves remains to be seen.

James isn’t the first NBA superstar to try his hand at producing. In fact, Kobe Bryant has actually been nominated for a 2018 Oscar for ”Dear Basketball”, a short documentary. In addition, Steven Nash is currently producing a featured that is as yet untitled about a time during the Reagan administration when ecstasy, its rise, and the rave culture hit Texas wide open. Furthermore, Kevin Durant is rumored to be partnering with Apple on a scripted drama which details his experience in the DC area’s AAU circuit as an elite youth basketball player.

James has also been attached to another popular nineties movie, ”Space Jam”, which is also a movie of which James and company would like to do a remake. However, the basketball movie is said to still be a long time off, apparently on the back burner at least until ”House Party” has been finished.

Now we wait as James and his longtime friend and partner work to produce this new reboot of the old original comedy. SpringHill Entertainment’s success could very well hinge on the remake of this one movie, either ending or building the duo’s Hollywood-producer days. If James is half as good at producing as he is playing basketball it will be a slam-dunk!
