Is John Cena Going to Be in HBO’s Watchmen Series?

John Cena

When you think of wrestlers that have made it to the silver screen, names such as Dave Bautista and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson likely come to mind. In fact, these two made their way from the square arena to the sliver screen pretty easily and with great reception from fans. Now, this duo may have another joining their ranks. John Cena is also making his way to movie-stardom. So far, he has played smaller, yet significant roles in films including the “Transformers” spin-off “Bumblebee,” “Daddy’s Home 2,” and “Trainwreck.” While he hasn’t had the interesting or unexpected roles the others have been seen in yet, the times may be changing. Now, there have been some hints on John Cena’s Instagram that he may be taking a role that relates to John Higgins, Dave Gibbons and Alan Moore’s hit, “Watchmen.” Is it true, or just rumors started by hopeful fans?

The Instagram Hints

Cena’s Instagram is a bit unique when it comes to what is expected from pro wrestlers. Rather than sharing sponsored meal supplement posts and workout selfies, John Cena usually shares what seems to be random images from the deep, dark depths of the internet, without any real explanation or context. For the last two weeks, Cen has been posting about “Watchmen.” In fact, he has made two posts related to this show within the past 14 days. The first post was The Comedian’s smiley, blood-stained face button, and the second was a piece of fan art that featured Doctor Manhattan.

What Exactly Do these Random Posts Mean?

The fact is, these posts may not be significant at all. On of the many comic fans he knows could have shown him the graphic novel, and it is just now that he has gotten around to it; however, anyone who follows Cena knows he usually uses Instagram to tell some type of story. What may seem to be random to begin with usually has some type of meaning. In some cases, it takes weeks to figure out, which may be the situation with “Watchmen.” After all, it is well-known that Damon Lindelof is working on an adaptation for HBO of the comic, and it may be that Cena is just being considered for the part.

Who Would Cena Play?

If you are taking ques from Cena’s most recent post, then Doctor Manhattan would be the obvious role, and since he is the closest thing to a Superman “Watchmen” has, then he definitely looks right for the part. However, this is still a question that hasn’t been answered, and it may be a few weeks — or longer — before the news is released. If you are a “Watchman” fan, then you may have heard the rumors and wonder if there is any truth in them. Just like with a number of other television shows, it is a game that you have to play and wait until the official announcement is made — if one is coming.
