The Top Uses of Jennifer Lopez Songs in Movies and TV

Jennifer Lopez has had a successful career as both a singer and an actress for decades. The native New Yorker began her acting career at the age of 16 with a small role in the 1986 movie “My Little Girl”. Her big break came when she won the role of a “Fly Girl”, a dancer on the comedy sketch show “In Living Color” in 1991. Movies including “Selena” and “Out of Sight” would help launch her acting career and also inspired her to start a singing career. She’s also a reality show judge. Here are the top uses of Jennifer Lopez songs in movies and television.

Selena – Como La Flor

When she starred in the biopic “Selena” in 1997, Jennifer Lopez’s acting career took off, but it also marked the first time she knew she wanted to be a singer. J Lo played Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, a Tejano music star whose career was soaring when she was murdered by the president of her fan club at the age of just 23. For the movie, J Lo was given lessons to lip sync Selena’s music. In most scenes of the film, J Lo is lip syncing. However, in the scene during a concert in Monterey, Mexico, J Lo sings the introduction to the ballad “Como La Flor”. In the scene, the crowds are going crazy and the band fears the stage could collapse so Selena performed the quiet song to soothe them. J Lo has said that filming “Selena” made her more aware that she should go for it and try a singing career as well as acting. She’s proven successful at both.

Home – Feel the Light

In 2015 Jennifer Lopez voiced the character of Lucy Tucci, the mom of Tip in the animated film “Home” produced by Dream Works. The movie also starred Rhianna and Jim Parsons. Jennifer Lopez recorded the beautiful ballad “Feel the Light” for the movie’s soundtrack. The song is played when Tip finally finds her mom with the help of her unlikely alien friend Oh and again during the ending credits.

Enough – Alive

Jennifer Lopez’s hit song “Alive” is featured in the 2002 thriller “Alive”. The movie is based on the New York Times Best Seller by Anna Qunidlin, “Black and Blue”. In the movie, J Lo plays Slim, a waitress in Los Angeles who meets the man of her dreams, Mitch. They marry and have a daughter. When Slim finds out that her husband is having an affair, she confronts him. He refuses to end the affair and beats his wife. Mitch cuts off his wife financially. Fearful that he will take their daughter away from her, Slim takes her daughter and goes into hiding, but Mitch finds them. She gets away and sends their daughter away with a friend while she takes on a new identity and trains in self defense. Slim surprises her ex husband and, this time, is able to fight back.
