It’s hard for Jane the Virgin to be a cautionary tale kind of a story. After all, you can’t exactly caution against getting accidentally artificially inseminated. Every other part of life is fair game though, and Jane was all about the caution when she envisioned her bachelorette party. You know what they say about best laid plans…
Jane doesn’t lose control very often, but when she does it’s not pretty. She chooses to plan out every detail of her bachelorette party so that nothing goes wrong. Unfortunately Xiomara and Lena have no intention of sending Jane off into her married life without a traditional bachelorette party, which is where things start to go wrong. A horrible incident where a stripper shows up at Jane’s school while she is giving a presentation to students and parents results in her possibly losing her position as a Teaching Assistant. Jane reluctantly agrees to go along with the rest of her mother’s plans for a bachelorette party, if only so that the shots will make her temporarily forget her troubles. The longer the night goes on, the worse things get. Xiomara accidently sends Jane’s professor an inappropriate message after he has gone through the effort of advocating for Jane’s job. Jane has no choice but to turn to her scheming stepsisters for help, if only because they’re the only ones who are sober. With their help Jane manages to delete the voicemail from her professor’s phone, and from then on she just wants to drink to forget this stressful night happened.
Rogelio may actually be happier about Jane and Michael’s nuptials than Jane and Michael themselves. He takes over the planning of Michael’s bachelor party, which frankly Jane might have been more comfortable at. Rogelio’s idea of a great time for Michael and his friends involves a 5-course meal, wine tasting, and reservations at a spa. The awkwardness level rises considerably and Rogelio is hurt when he realizes Michael never originally intended to invite him to his bachelor party. They will always be friends, but there should still be some boundaries in the relationship. As it turns out, after awhile Michael’s friends don’t mind the pampering so much. So over massages Michael and Rogelio mend fences, declaring themselves “Brogelios for Life”.
As the night winds down Michael and Jane’s respective parties end up at the Marbella. Everyone relaxes and lets loose, and if I’m not mistaken, Jane took a page from Barney in her rapping. When Xiomara finally rejoins the party after leaving it for awhile to track down everyone’s phones, she returns with a cute guy in her arms. What Xo doesn’t realize is that the cute guy is actually dating Lena. Lena has already had a difficult night after realizing that Jane’s life is moving forward and she herself hasn’t moved forward in her goals. After chastising her mother and helping Lena make a list of goals, Jane shares her vows with Michael and he in return. The morning sobers Jane up, so much so that she refuses to forgive Xiomara and tells her to grow up.
