If it’s deemed important that you watch Kathy Bates doing something, it’s bound to be important and you should definitely do it. Watching her lip syncing to Bruno Mars DEFINITELY counts since it’s just too awesome for words. Even better is when she gets up to the front of the stage and does the foot slide with the rest of the dancers like she’s been doing it for years. That is just all kinds of awesome and can’t be topped in that moment. Kathy Bates is hands down one of the greatest actors ever to grace a stage or a movie set and she’s proven that she’s beyond cool many upon many times when she steps off screen. To see her in Lip Sync Battle is just hilarious but it’s also inspiring in a way since at this point Bates is 69 years of age and she still knows how to get down and have fun.
Quite honestly this woman has such a stellar career that she’s been able to do no wrong for a long, long time. Even the roles she’s taken that have been obscured by time and the fact that they were in movies that didn’t really go anywhere hasn’t done anything to the potency of her talent. I mean come on, this is the woman that brought us Annie Wilkes in Misery and Dolores Claiborne. She also gave us one of her best roles as Evelyn Couch in Fried Green Tomatoes. The woman can flat out act and she can make it convincing, so lip syncing to Bruno Mars is well within her wheelhouse. To think that she’d give anything but the best is kind of silly since when she gets up on stage she’s there to do what she does and just have a good time with it.
If you recall not too long ago she even gave us a few awesome seasons by starring in American Horror Story for four seasons, debuting as Madame Delphine LaLaurie in Coven, Ethel Darling in Freakshow, Iris in Hotel, and both The Butcher and Agnes Mary Winstead in Roanoake. She’s an Oscar-winning actress that has done so much to date that something like Lip Sync Battle was no doubt a joy to get up on stage and just let her hair down and have fun with it. Watching her perform to Bruno Mars is kind of a treat since you don’t get to see her do much more than her very best most of the time and can’t tell if she really has a wild side or not.
It’s getting kind of obvious that she’s getting older apart from the gray hair but thankfully she can still show off her moves when she wants. This woman is without a doubt a legend in her own right and is only getting better with age since everything she does seems to exude a sense of pride in the career that she’s formed. She has every right to be proud of herself for what she’s accomplished and deserves to let her hair down.
