All my life I’ve wanted to be a writer. I’ve wanted to travel the world, see new places and (hopefully) share my adventures with an avid reader or two. As a copywriter, writing is my bread and butter. But like many cunning linguists I know, I quickly learnt that the life of a full-time writer is slightly less glamorous than I imagined. Instead of sitting in a meadow waiting for inspiration to strike, I’m just one more person who spends 9 to 5 staring at a screen. So when I finally got the chance to visit a luxury lodge in the Scottish Highlands for “work”, I was expecting to be holed up in a tiny room in a far-forgotten corner of the resort. To say I was wholly unprepared for what was in store is an understatement. But I am happy to report that my first foray into travel writing didn’t just meet my expectations – it exceeded them.
