If anyone reading this is familiar with the song “Angry Young Man” by Billy Joel it’s one of the best examples of someone playing one piano key at an incredible rate. Another well known song that’s played extremely fast on the piano is “Flight of the Bumble Bee.” However, have you ever wondered just how fast a human could actually play piano keys? I have. Perhaps it’s because I play piano myself but I was amazing to find out the recently, a Guinness record has been set for most piano keys pressed in one minute.
That number is 824. I don’t have the stats on the pace Joel was at in “Angry Young Man” but I’m guess it’s around a few hundred, which is still unbelievably fast. Below is a video of Domingos-Antonio Gomes of Portugal setting the Guinness World Record for the most piano keys pressed in a minute, with a staggering 824 hits (beating the previous record of 765 set by Hungarian pianist Bence Peter).
This is insane.
