Grey’s Anatomy Review: We’re Teenagers Again

Grey's Anatomy

As adults we like to think that we are evolved and mature and beyond childish jealousies. Let’s get real though, this is Grey’s Anatomy. If there’s one thing we know it’s that even doctors don’t like sharing their toys, or their workspaces. Let’s discuss what happened with the Grey Sloan Memorial doctors left the safety of home base.

Meredith, Callie, Jackson, Bailey, and Jo head to a military hospital to perform an experimental surgery on a soldier. The surgery is planned, but their timeline needs to be moved up quickly when the patient takes a fall. The patient’s physician, Major Thorpe, doesn’t play with others very well. Callie doesn’t respond well to his attitude, promising that the surgery will be brilliant. Despite her knee-jerk reaction, and her pep talk with squirrel metaphors, Callie remains very nervous throughout the surgery. When she faces an unforeseen complication, Callie panics. With Meredith’s help, Callie improvises and figures her way through to a successful surgery.

Back at Grey Sloan, the remaining doctors have to deal with a group of high school cheerleaders. As a former dancer I may have no room to judge, but I think we can all agree that all of that shrieking is the reason adults hate kids in puberty. As a former cheer captain herself, Stephanie knows how to handle these girls. She has come a long way since high school, so it takes awhile for those instincts to kick in, but when they do she rallies those girls together so they can be there for a teammate who has a heart condition.

Alex makes a very good point that the hospital is pretty much filled with teenagers even when it isn’t filled with teenagers. Maggie and Andrew learn very quickly that there are no secrets in the hospital. Everyone knows about their relationship, with the exception of Arizona. Maggie makes her relationship with Andrew public knowledge, albeit with great difficulty. Unfortunately Andrew has been absorbing the hospital relationships and it seems he is slowly realizing that he may not want a relationship which could be perceived as getting him ahead in his class. April should know that secrets aren’t good, yet she still hasn’t told Jackson about the baby. She better hurry up before Jackson is no longer single. He’s already gotten his first admirer at the military hospital.

Warren treats a patient in the psych ward, and risks it all to keep him alive. He literally sticks his hand into the patient’s chest to save his life. He was wrong if he thought this would earn him points with anyone. Webber is furious with Warren, proving that just because he is married to the chief and is older than the other residents, doesn’t mean he is going to get special treatment. In fact, he’s going to be suspended, and by his own wife. Impressed as she his with actions, Bailey is also furious and disappointed in her husband.

As for Meredith’s connection with a new doctor, people will probably have varied opinions on that. It’s hard not to be excited for her after being a widow for so long. Meredith already had her soul mate, but that doesn’t mean she shouldn’t have some fun for the rest of her life.

Is it time for Meredith to move on?
