Last season was a big year for Warner Bros. TV and DC Comics as they premiered several new DC TV shows, including FOX’s Batman prequel series Gotham, which tells the origin stories of Jim Gordon (played by Ben McKenzie) and of Gotham‘s most iconic villains before The Dark Knight became the city’s protector. One of the new players that came in during the second half of Season 1 was Dr. Leslie Thompkins (played by Firefly‘s Morena Baccarin), who formed a great bond with Jim, but also went through some big adventures of her own by the end of the first year.
TVOvermind was fortunate enough to participate in Gotham Press Room at San Diego Comic-Con with other news outlets at roundtables where stars and producers from the show discussed what is coming up in Season 2. Baccarin was one of the people we got to talk to, and you can watch her entire roundtable interview in the video below. Here are some of the highlights:
When asked about the tone of Jim and Leslie’s relationship in Season 2: “I think Leslie is left a little bit rattled after her last experience with Barbara. But she is a very strong person, and they are survivors. They are just trying to deal with the hand that they were dealt. He is in a bit of a dark spot, and I think throughout the rest of the season it’s going to be a little bit of a push into that darkness and see if they can come out surviving. I don’t know if ‘light’ is the right word [when asked if Leslie is basically the light in Jim’s darkness]. I mean, she is supportive, but I also thinks she has her own things that she is grappling with. It’s a difficult world, the Gotham world.”
What some of those things are that Leslie is grappling with in the second season: “Well I don’t know yet. We only have three scripts, but so far, Jim has been demoted and things are not going so well. We start in a place, in a complicated universe, as Gotham always is. She is struggling with what has happened to her and how to put that behind her, and Barbara, of course, always has a way of coming back!”
Gotham Season 2 begins on Monday Sept.21, at 8 p.m. on FOX. Stay tuned for more roundtable videos of the cast and producers in the next few days right here at TVOvermind.
