At this moment, Peter calls Walter and September disappears. He tells him the Observer stopped a robbery at a jewelry store, and saved the life of the salesgirl. As Olivia and Peter are following the police cruiser, Walter tells his son to ask the girl where she was in 1985.
Then like a lighting bolt, a truck driven by September slams into the cruiser. His attempt at course correction is in full swing.
‘Give me the keys and save the girl,’says Peter and Walter is terrified. This is it. It’s happening. Peter is going to be taken away from him. The look on Walter’s face says it all. Peter pleads with him to save the girl and Walter reluctantly gives him the keys knowing that this girl will die if he doesn’t help her.
Walter and Astrid get to work as Peter runs after Olivia who is chasing September. Peter catches him on the roof and asks the question he is begging to know the answer to, what does the picture of him with the device mean? But before he offers up an answer, the Observer shoots Peter with his air gun and disappears.
Luckily, the shot has given Peter a headache and not much else. So with everyone ok, Walter and Astrid take Roscoe back to the nursing home, feeling grateful for his second chance at seeing his son. Roscoe and Walter have a connection, and he jokes that maybe sometime Walter can bring him a strawberry milkshake.
Meanwhile, Olivia and Peter are back at the lab. He brings up the book and tries to emphasize he got it for HER, for his Olivia, because he wants to share it with her. He loves this book because it talks about not depending on others but finding the answer within yourself.
[singlepic id=9558 w=320 h=240 float=left]As he takes a swig of milk with his aspirin, he collapses. He drank Walter’s serum. He starts seizing. Everyone’s nerves are electrified during the few tense moments it takes Olivia to ring Walter and determine the antidote.
He begins to stabilize and is ok. This makes Walter realize that maybe September’s purpose wasn’t to take Peter from him but to save Walter’s life. If he had drank that serum, he probably would have died. As a spry, healthy young man, Peter would be fine. You can hear the faint song playing in the background ‘…If I only had a brain.’
Yet, the Observer’s purpose wasn’t to save Walter’s life but to test him. Would he be able to sacrifice his son for the greater good? And on this night he proved he would. He had changed. And when the time comes, September believes he’d be willing to do it again.
