Finally, there is Olivia. Prior to tonight’s episode, her unique ability was to critically think and put pieces together — as well as to soak nearly naked in a glowing hot tub while viewing the memories of a dead man! She is also the glue that facilitated the repair of the relationship between Walter and Peter. Tonight we learned that she has other even more unique abilities that might even result from a childhood experimental drug.
What Works with the Storyline: This has got to be hands down the best episode of Fringe I have seen yet. We have known that the Observer is a piece of the puzzle for a reason, now we have a semi-plausible explanation for why he is there. He very well could be a traveler from another part of the multiverse. Or maybe he is some kind of bald interdimensional referee. Either way, he is obviously more than just a ‘Where’s Waldo?’addition to the cast.
Walter’s part to play just got kicked up a notch as well. Maybe he is not the sweet, kindly, crazy brilliant scientist. Maybe he went crazy, not just because of what happened to the lab assistant, but of what he knew and/or did to cause the lab assistant’s death in the first place. Could it be that William Bell and Walter Bishop are one and the same? Finally, what about Olivia? If she really does possess some kind of brain altering chemically enhanced telepathic ability does that make her part of the problem or part of the solution? Although, Olivia does not seem to be thoroughly convinced that she was actually the puzzle solver, David Robert Jones was.
Unfortunately, Fringe is now on a hiatus until April. So it might be a while until we get the answers to those questions. Fortunately, for me anyway, that means I can turn loose of the remote and let someone else watch TV before they crack me over the head and pry it from my cold dead fingers! See you in April!

I absolutely LOVED this episode (could you tell from the SQUEE! PM I sent you?), just watched it again actually.
** Now, I don’t know about you, but the med kits that I have seen are lucky to have real band-aides let alone an inner cannula for a trach! **
Ha! I had to snort at that-how I can love a show about the impossible, and get stuck on someone doing a bloodless subcutaneous trach and not have the O2 equip needed *shakes head*
I actually got goosebumps…I had a DunDunDUN!! moment at the very end of the episode when
she found out about the drug trials in her city when she was a
baby…it was almost like (many years ago) when Scully found that big
weird tunnel/wharehouse thing and found specimens and info with her
name on it. I am dying to find out who her parents are…
I’m sorry, did I just read that there are no more episodes until APRIL??? OMFG ;(
Thanks for the great recap…I am enjoying all the recaps so much ’cause each recapping genius picks up on things that have entirely slipped by me, be it Fringe or Lost or Heroes :)
