Michelle Dockery is an English actress who was born in London on December 15, 1981. She began her career as a performer in 2004 when she played the role of Jessie in the stage production ‘His Dark Materials. She then began to work in both film and television. She is best-known for playing the role of Lady Mary Crawley in the British ITV television series ‘Downtown Abbey’ between 2010 and 2015. Some of Dockery’s films have included ‘Anna Karenina’, ‘Hanna’, and ‘Non-Stop’. She currently plays Letty Raines in ‘Good Behavior’. 1. She Has Sung in a Band
In addition to being a talented actress, Michelle Dockery is also a trained singer. She has even sung with Sadie and the Hotheads. This is a band formed by Elizabeth McGovern. She also sang at the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club for its 50th anniversary. She has said that she has a variety of musical influences including Joni Mitchell, Oasis, and Billie Holiday.
2. She is Involved in Charity Work
Michelle Dockery devotes much of her free time to charity work. Since 2015, she has been the first Ambassador for Oxfam and this is one of the main charities she supports. In the same year, she featured in a short film with many other celebrities of support Stand Up to Cancer. She is also a patron of the charity Changing Faces and supports many more charities.
3. Her Fiancee Died
Dockery met John Dineen in 2013 after they were introduced by Dockery’s co-star Allen Leech. The couple became engaged in early 2015 and Dockery was photographed wearing a large diamond ring. Sadly, Dineen was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and died at Marymount Hospice in Cork, Ireland, on December 13, 2015. Dockery was at his bedside when he passed away at the age of 34. She has since publicly thanked her friends and family for their ongoing support during a difficult stage in her life.
4. She is an Award-Winner
Dockery has won many awards in recognition for her acting talents. She has been nominated for a total of 21 awards throughout her career of which she has won seven. The first of these was the 2nd prize for the 2007 Ian Charleson Award for Best Performance in an Actor. In 2015, she received a Television Icon Award at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards. Her other five awards were for her role in ‘Downtown Abbey’ and she received these between 2012 and 2015. These included three Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Glamour Award, and a Huading Award.
5. She is in the Film ‘The Sense of an Ending’
Michelle Dockery is in the 2017 mystery drama film ‘The Sense of an Ending’. This film is written by Nick Payne and directed by Ritesh Batra. It is based on the book of the same name by Julian Barnes. Dockery plays Susie Webster in the film which was released on March 10, 2017, in the United States. Others who star in this film include Jim Broadbent, Charlotte Ramping, Harriet Walter, and Emily Mortimer.
