The name is not familiar to many people in the United States, unless you’re in the film industry or a lover of foreign films. Marwan Hamed didn’t begin his career in cinema until the year 2000. Prior to this, he attended and earned his certifications from the High Institute of Cinema, graduatng in 1999. He began his career as an Assistant Director, directing short films and multiple documentary films. The short film “Lilly” was a 40 minute short that earned him the highest recognition early in his career .

Hamed is known for his superior direction and has been recognized on many occasions. He’s been honored with a variety of international awards which include the Golden Award at the Carthage Film Festival, the Clermond Ferrand Film Festival, the Prix du Public and the Silver Prize at Milano Film Festival. He is working on a new film right now
Cameras have not yet started rolling, but they are scheduled to do so in a new film, directed by Marwan Hamed called “Diamond Dust.” The film features Arab celebrities and the characters that they play become enmeshed in a ring of corruption that is closely linked to modern day Egypt. It is a vigilante story that is inspired by a novel written by Ahed Mourad in 2010. filming will commence in Cairo, Egypt. Mawed keeps himself busy moving from one project to another without taking many breaks in between.
His new film will only be released in the Middle East
Hamed’s latest fim, “Diamond Dust” will not be released internationally. So far, there are no world sales companies on board with the project, so this will limit the number of people who will be privileged to watch it. There is no word yet if New Century Production, the oldest film making company that is Arab owned, has plans to market it internationally. It is unclear why the film will not be more widely distributed throughout international circles.
