You might know her as the reporter Ashley from Scandal. Or you might know her as the newbie star from Tyler Perry’s The Peeples. You might even remember her from the many commercials she’s done throughout her career. Wherever you know her from, Kimrie Lewis is one face you won’t see going away anytime soon. She’s actually starring in a new ABC pilot called Single Parents alongside Hawaii Five-O’s Jake Choi. Here are 5 things you didn’t know about Kimrie Lewis.
Jazzy Roots
Talk about strength in lineage, Kimrie Lewis’ bloodline goes straight back to legendary jazz bassist and pianist Charles Mingus. Through her father’s ancestry and lineage, she’s actually the great niece of Mingues. Both of Lewi’s parents work in the news industry in LA, where Lewis was born. She was raised in the bad parts of South LA, but Lewis claims that her parents made sure she and her brother went to the best schools and were sheltered from all the danger.
Drama Club
Lewis is the ultimate drama buff. She loves theater so much that she went to college for it. She attended and graduated from the New York University Tisch School of the Arts with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater. That’s quite a mouthful, but all of that has helped shape Lewis’ talents and career.
Active Life
Lewis believes in keeping a fairly active life. She’s more than active, actually, as Lewis happens to be quite the fitness buff. However, don’t expect her to spend hours in the gym, running on the treadmill. Lewis likes to stay active outdoors. To stay fit, she likes to go hiking and biking. She’ll alternate between days and mixes it all up with some weight training as well. She keeps her body lean, and she likes how it makes her feel about herself. One of her favorite activities, though, is Zumba. Lewis says she’ll burn an easy 700 calories in one session.
Stand Up Skills
Besides being a talented actress, Lewis has another passion–stand up comedy. Being a theater graduate, Lewis is not shy when it comes to the stage. She loves doing stand up because to her it’s very personal. She’s got tons of stories to tell and most of them can solicit a room full of laughter. She’s also got a few crazy characters under the belt that she might put on from time to time. Lewis says that the having a live audience is very inspiring to her in a way that feeds her passion and artistry.
Tech Geek
So, the list of talents this woman has just may never end, but one thing is worth mentioning. Lewis claims that she happens to be a tech geek and a tech junkie, and she is even a self-proclaimed tech prodigy. She says she is amazing at any tech she can get her hands on. We might put this to test one day, but for now, we’ll take her word for it.
