Charlyne Yi is a talented actress, musician, writer, and comedian. She was born in Los Angeles on January 4, 1986. She first appeared on television playing the role of Charlyne in ‘Help Me Help You’ in 2006 and made her film debut in ‘Knocked Up’ in the following year as the character Jodi. Her screenwriting debut was ‘Paper Heart’ which was released in 2009. She has now established a career in many different aspects of the music, television, and film industry. Yi is particularly well-known for playing Dr. Chi Park in ‘House’. She also had a recurring role on the 2016 series ‘Love’.

1. She Has Won an Award as a Screenwriter
At the Sundance Film Festival, she won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award for ‘Paper Heart’. In addition to co-writing this hybrid-documentary film, she also starred as herself. For the same film, she was also nominated for a Comedy Film Award for Best Actress.
2. She Has Diverse Heritage
Although she is American born and bred, Charlyne Yi has an interesting and diverse cultural heritage. Her mother was a native of the Philippines and is of both Filipino and Spanish descent. Her father’s ancestry includes Mexican, Irish, Korean, French, German and Native American. Despite her ancestry, Yi has laid down roots in Los Angeles, the city in which she was born.
3. She Has Appeared in Twin Peaks
Charlyne Yi has had many small roles in television in which she has appeared in just one or two episodes of a series. One example of this is ‘Twin Peaks’. In 2017, she appeared in episode 15 of season three playing the role of Ruby. ‘Twin Peaks’ is a mystery drama revival series that is also known as ‘Twin Peaks: The Return’. It is set 25 years after the original ‘Twin Peaks’ and was created by Mark Frost and David Lynch, the latter of whom also directs the series. Other series in which Charlyne Yi has had a small role include ‘Jane the Virgin’, ‘Future-Worm!’, ‘Conan’, and ‘Miss Guided’.
4. She Has Been in Two Bands
Yi is currently in a band called ‘Sacred Destinies’.However, this is not the first band she has been in as she was formerly in a band called ‘The Glass Beef’. She formed this band with Paul Rust who is also an actor, comedian, and writer. The duo both sang lead vocals and shared one electric guitar between them. They released their debut album, ‘The Farewell Album’, in 2006. This was produced by John Spiker who is the bassist in Tenacious D. Rust also formed a band with fellow comedians Harris Wittel and Michael Cassady called ‘Don’t Stop or We’ll Die’. Rust is the lead singer and bass player for this comedy rock band.
5. She Has Appeared in Song Videos
Although she is best-known for her work in television and film, Charlyne Yi has also appeared in two music videos. She featured in the video for ‘Song Away’ by Hockey along with former ‘The Glass Beef’ bandmate Paul Rust. She has also appeared in the video for the song ‘Rabbit Hats’ by Man Man, an experimental band from Philadelphia.
